Okay, the NHL season is winding down and looks like my Leafs won't even get in. Considering the uncertainty in the so called "New NHL", with teams such as Buffalo and Carolina coming out of nowhere.... who are your favorites to make the finals?

As much as I hate to say this, I'm going with Philly in the East and Detroit once more in the West.

Well Leaf, with all due respect, New Jersey will win the East and Detroit will win the West. This should make for interesting living quarters for here in Bay City. With the Devils finishing off the Wings in 6.

You Ranger fans should be happy to make the playoffs. Don't you think you are asking a lot out of a team that hasn't seen the playoffs since 1997 to go all the way as you are say??? You don't have the experience to go all the way as you have stated. Be real. I am thinking all the way but it is not where you are thinking. :imouttahe

lol.....i still maintain my picksWe have won more Stanley cups since 1997 than you have made the playoffs. We have 2 Cups. How many times have you been to the playoffs in that time if you don't mind me inquiring? As you know inquiring minds want to know. Besides, I am not worried about the Islanders. They will not make the playoffs the way things are going. But you do have to play us one more time this season and I am really hoping you guys get the 3 seed. I want the 6 seed so we can kick your teams teeth and Jagr right down their throats. You want no part of the Devils. Because we will beat you from pillar to post. So enjoy your first taste of the playoffs for the first time since 1997. It will be a short one.

Leafs playoff hopes are almost nil, but its an interesting race now, if you can call it that. NJ, Tampa and Montreal all remain tied for the final 3 spots with Atlanta and Toronto in pursuit.... gonna be an interesting finish! :cool2: Of those three teams, NJ has the toughest schedule by far ;)

But should they make the playoffs they would definately be battle-tested. Even more, the fact that the Devils have Brodeur ( even Ottawa's announcers said it last night ) that is a HUGE advantage the Devils have over any other team in the NHL. He has won more than 100 playoff games in his career and the fact the Devils have failed to make the playoffs only once since the 1987-1988 season again the advantage goes to the Devils. :dogpile:

I sure hope the Blues can turn things around, ol' dog! :D

PS: tf4u, you don't have to remind me of Brodeur's credentials ;)Leaf that wasn't really directed towards you. In fact, it was directed towards those who believe they have a better goalminder than Martin Brodeur. If you think you are going to win the Stanley Cup look at your goaltenders and ask how many of them won three Cups in the last 11 years ( went to 4 Cup finals )? Then ask yourself if my goaltender gets hot can he still beat Brodeur if he himself is just as hot? It does not matter whether the Devils are seeded number one or number eight. This team can win regardless of seeding. Remember the Devils hold the record for most wins at home in a Stanley Cup run with 12. They did that in 2003. They also hold the record for most playoffs wins on the road during a Stanley Cup run with 11. That was set in 1995 when the Devils won their first Cup. So it does not matter about seeding with the Devils. If your going to win the Cup you MUST be better than Martin Brodeur. Is your team up for the challenge? I know the Devils will be. Will the Devils win? I don't know. But certainly it will be hard to beat the New Jersey Devils if Marty Brodeur is on top of his game.

KING LUNDY??? How many playoff games has the King played compared to Brodeur? The only goalie with any kind of playoff experience that is a starter right now is Hasek. Hasek has played 97 playoff games. Brodeur has played in 144. Again, I am NOT saying the Devils will win. I am saying lets be real. King has NEVER played a playoff game. Now because he had a season for you guys that you have been longing for since 1997 now you are Cup winners? You wouldn't be comparing him to Patrick Roy now, would you? I want to see the King and Brodeur in the first round. Then the Ranger fans will see it is time to go to school. :whip:

Well I was a big Rangers fan before the strike but now it seems that the NHL has started over in a way. It has a fresh feel to it and a new team might (I say might now!) be a lot of fun. I like switching teams its fun! I feel bad for guys who stick with losers for scores of years. If you cant put a competitive team on the field, court or ice than take a hike. If youre rebuilding than you better be progressing and not wasting my time. The NY Giants are rebuilding AND are competitive. They are my model team. I love Tom Coughlin but I love his daughter more (Playboy Playmate Carmelle DeCasare)!! Keep her away from Shockey!! :wowzer:

This has been a SUPER season for you guys. Myself as a Devils fan will never minimize that. You guys had a fantastic year. I am happy for the Ranger fans. Only because my youngest brother is one ( how he slipped through the cracks I don't know!!! ). But I digress. The Rangers do not have the EXPERIENCE to beat a team like the Devils. Don't let the fact that you are 3-3-1 against New Jersey fool you. Fact is, Brodeur will come up big in big games. Ask Anaheim how many times they were shutout in the Finals against the Devils in 2003. They will tell you 3 times. Brodeur set a record for most shutout in a playoff run with 7. Keep in mind you can't beat a team if you don't score.

It is obvious that there isn't that much respect if you don't think that experience can win. I guess holding Jagr to just 2 assists in the last four games isn't convincing enough. That is okay though. Remember when we play the playoffs, we don't have a skills competition games in overtime. There will be NO shootouts. The Devils should be okay. The Rangers and their fans should be happy that you got this far. Hopefully get a series win against the Flyers. If you play the Devils you are ,in fact, going to be one and done. And even that is okay because the light are usually out right after the hockey season is over. Now at least the Garden can root the Rangers and hopefully get 6 to 10 games. If you are that good and avoid a first round match-up versus the Devils.

I'm picking Calgary to get what was taken from them in the last Stanley Cup Final... the Cup!!

First Round Predictions:

EAST

Tampa def Ottawa in seven - Experience and goaltending will decide this series...both teams slump into the playoffs (no Hasek means bye bye Sens)

Montreal def Carolina in six - Goaltending... Huet and that ol' Montreal spirit I hate so much will be the prevailing factor

NJ def NYR in 6 - once again, world class experience and goaltending

Buf def Philly in 7 - Lindy Ruff's working his magic once again... Miller/Biron (much hinges on how or if Forsberg is able to perform)

WEST

Detroit def Edmonton in five - No contest

Dallas def Colorado in 4 - Clean sweep baby... Turco

Calgary def Anaheim in 6 - Coaching and goaltending will be the difference.

SJ def Nashville in 6 - No Vocoun = disaster for Nashville.

Please, I implore you to put down the crackpipe and come to reality. Did the Rangers not choke the division away or was that another team that went on a 5 game losing streak to the Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins as well as the Devils and Flyers? Your team is just waiting to go SPLAT and what I am happy about is that my team will be the final nail in your teams coffin. Isn't life grand? If you couldn't get 2 points in your final 5 games to put away the division, you will not get 4 games from the Devils who are on an 11 game winning streak. Those are facts!!!

Warheart
04-22-2006, 06:46 AM
Heres another fact G...the Devils are one of the most notorious choke teams in NHL Playoff history. They HAD first seed and blew it to their first round opponent the Sens in Lemaires last season and they also came up empty against the Avalanche in the cup finals not too long ago when they had Colorado beat. Brodeur is overrated as he faces about 10 shots a game so of course his stats are gonna be great. The Rangers are a young team on the way up while the Devs are an aging team headed south. Well see who takes this series and then examine why. If Jagr is hurt though then the series doesnt count...sorry. :wow:

He got hurt late in the game. We were already up 6-1 when he got hurt. By the way, Brodeur has an average of 24.58 shots against average. So that being said, there is more than 10 shots a game. Face facts, you will lose this series.

At this point in the playoffs, I know it's unfair to pick a winner (only four teams left), but with the way he's been playing, I'm leaning towards building a church in honour of Edmonton netminder Dwayne Roloson.

I'll admit my pics at the outset of the playoffs were Philly over Dallas in the final, but now I gotta say I'm looking forward to Edmonton over Buffalo in Game 7.

Really, I'll be happy as long as Anaheim doesn't win. (Curse you Walt Disney!)

Does anyone remember this prediction....made way back on the 1st page of this thread...7th post...
Ill go out on a limb and say Dallas and Carolina. Carolina to win it all in 6.

Rob
Well I was wrong about the teams, and the number of games...but I got the winner and I got a cool hundred dollars in a pool I went into.
WAY TO GO CANES!!!!!!
Man, it figures they would win the year after I move away from Raleigh. I guess If I move from Athens, Georgia would win the National Title and the Falcons would win the Super Bowl. Guess Im staying here for a while!!!!

CAROLINA HURRICANES--STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS!!!
how do ya like them now Hartford?!?!?
