View Full Version : The Mets Proving Again They're New York's Minor League Team

The latest installment in the history of the sad sack Mets is new reliever Billy Wagner's theft of far superior reliever Mariano Rivera's entrance song Enter Sandman by Metallica. The whole tri-state area is up in arms about it. If the Mets are trying to find an identity for themselves why borrow from the team whose shadow they cant seem to escape the Yankees? First off I wish Wagner kept the song and Mariano had a better song as Metallica suck in the metal world. How about an AC/DC, Iron Maiden or a KISS song? Hell a Barry Manilow song would be better than Metalli-commercal! Alas Enter Sandman has become Rivera's staple entrance so were stuck with it but the Mets allowing Wagner to use it only proves once again that the New York Mets are content with being the #2 team in New York. :sowrong:

Speaking of sad sack of you know what. You have 2 guys on your team doing steriods and still you can't hold of team who has a $50,000,000 payroll, and you guys having a $250,000,000, down. You blow a 4-0 like the Mets did and you guys lose to the Oakland A's 9-4. That is a great staff over there. What happened to 15-2? Your pitching staff blew back to back games. So do me a favor, take Enter Sandman and stick it because nobody gets to tell anyone what song they can or can't enter too. Besides the only reason the Tri-State area is up in arem about it is because Yankee fans called in to complain about. So that was Yankee fan paying attention to us and not worrying about their team. Maybe if Yankee fans didn't make such a big deal about it, it wouldn't be an issue. BTW, I agree with you in regards to the group and song and everything. It is just go harassment. But, you guys are not SUPERIOR. Right now you are 1-2. So right now even at 1-1 we are superior. Please don't tell me about 26 World Championships either. You were alive for max 6 of them. Myself as a Mets fan, know Yankee history better than most Yankee fans do. I appreciate what Yankee history has meant to baseball because back in 1920 it saved baseball. So before you call the Mets sad sacks, lets keep in mind, we don't have guys on our team doing steriods nor are we fans bandwagon jumpers. Because I can tell you in the 1980's you guys were all Mets fans. I know because I watched how Yankee fan would say to me in 1982 " how can you be a Mets fan?" Then 4 years later they are rooting on the Mets wearing their Mets hat and those same people going up to Yankee fans saying " how can you root on the Yankees?" Those fans are not true fans. I root hard for my team. Even when they finished 63-99 in 1979 when Joe Torre managed the Mets. When they finished 53-109 in 1993. I will always be a Mets fan. I don't believe myself or my team second class citizensnor do I believe you cast a shadow over the Mets. You guys have been in the league since 1901 when you were the Baltimore Orioles before moving to Highland Park in Manhatten in 1903. The Mets have only been around since 1962. So do me a favor, you and I have talked on PM's but don't judge my team as #2. Because in my heart, my team can finish last 50 years in a row and they will always be #1. That is why I have GREAT appreciation for Cubs fans and Red Sox fans. They are loyal to a fault.

Damn TF4U relax! Im talking about the Mets not your woman! Personally I think if a guy wants to do steroids on the Yanks then he should...you yourself said that they have a huge payroll so they have to do everything possible to earn it in my opinion. As for Enter Sandman for me take it...I hate Metallica. Id rather Mariano enter with Bad To The Bone or something. Most of what I said are arguments by our friend Chris "Mad Dog" Russo that I happen to agree with. As for the Mets being better than the Yanks you know thats not true. They are and always will be New York's B team...and as for those 6 World Championships I was alive for one of them was when they absolutely destroyed your team the New York Mets a few years back. How can you dispute that? The battle of New York had been settled right there! :evilha: The Mets are good team, finish around 500 each year and the Yankees win their division each year. If youre satisfied with that then more power to ya. I was in Shea Stadium in the mid-90s with 18,000 fans most of which were booing the Mets. Same with the football Jets...couldnt take blunder after blunder year after year on the field and off. The solution was switching to the winning teams and im happy now. Hey if players can change to other teams and teams can change to other cities why cant fans change teams? Loyalty to a sports team went out with the peace and love movement and the whole point of watching sports is to make you happy. Does watching the Mets and Jets make you happy? They suck and have for a LONG time. So youre my best friend on this site and I love you and Sadira to death as you well know but your REAL argument is with Chris Russo. Damn! Youd make a great caller to WFAN. Id love to hear you make your point to him not a baseball novice like my dumb ass. :happyfloa

Yes I agree Tulip, the Mets have a formidable team ON PAPER. They always seem to around this time of year. Id say they have as much talent as the Braves yet the Braves win the division year after year and the Mets as said before finish around 500. I understand your loyalty Tulip as your a Long Islander but you must see that I was born and live in the Bronx so I have Yankee blood in me. :Hyrdrogen

BUT I would love you see the Yanks get back into the swing of things! Who knows whats going to happen and I hope for ONE of the NY teams to pull something off this season!

I have been a Mets fan since 1973 and I have seen all too much how everytime the Mets trade for a good name player, it always fizzles. I think if they trade for a big time player and don't compliment them with other good role players, he just sinks to the ocean floor because he is in such a strong spotlight. The Mets built their current team through the farm in Reyes and Wright. Those two are going to be great. Getting Delgado added much needed protection in the line up for Wright. I hope Beltran comes around. This is the best team I have seen since 1986.
I also think that it's safe to say that the Yankees came back to Earth after their opening night massacre. In the last two games, they didn't get one hit with a runner in scoring position (or so it seemed). I am not a Yankee hater, but I have to admit, I am getting a little tired of seeing the Yankees get a feature player every offseason for the past ten years because Steinbrenner just throws money around like it grows on trees.

I agree Knox that the 2004 ALCS is the darkest hour in Yankees history and a disgrace to the greatest organization in the history of sports. The day after the Red Sux win the Bronx around here was miserable, you could see it peoples faces. All I can say is that was a once in a lifetime event so appreciate it for what it was because as of 2005 and forever more the Yankees will continue their whipping over the Red Sux and their dopey, ugly fans! :jester:

Sice your 15-2 win you have scored 6 runs and left a colony of men in scoring position. :jester: Also by the end of the year all you 1970 baby and after will all be Mets fans. Because as I said before, there are no true Yankee fans since the days of DiMaggio and Mantle and Berra. You are all fair weather fans. You just watch, wait and see. Enjoy your season.

Yeah, I've seen the great, magnificent Yankees. Robinson Cannot really scares the shit outta me...
Gee, and last year, they had a problem beating Boston, if I remember correctly, and I usually do. They sure as hell can't do a damn thing with the Angels.
When they needed good, younger pitching that would carry them into the future, Fatso insisted that they sign a certain overweight, unable to run, unable to throw outfielder just to spite the Red Sox instead. What excuses will you give me in August when Mariano can't even get lucky anymore?

Sorry Knox, I "beated my chest" in a playful way and I was mostly cheerleading for my favorite baseball team but youre just spoiling for a fight. A fight that the mods would reprimand us for and delete the posts anyway so why bother? Pennants arent won in the first 2 weeks of April just in case you wanted a bit of baseball info. "Fair Weather Fan" is an obsolete term TF4U. Especially when an entire organization can pick up and move to another city...why cant a fan switch to another team? If im to spend my valuable time watching a sport I expect a competitive effort on the field or if rebuilding I want progress. Hey I was a NY Jets fan for 10 years...the ultimate test of ones loyalty and misery. I switched teams to the Jints and now im happy for a change! Aint that the purpose of sports is to make you happy? Those loser teams have empty stadiums for a reason mi amigo! How many Arizona Cardinals jerseys do you see people wearing? :veryhappy

Alrighty folks...back on topic please before this gets to the point of no return. It's baseball season...let's all enjoy it. There's so few things in life as interesting as NY baseball!
On a side note, GO METS!!
They do look sharp... so far. BUT, as always, you need to avoid major injuries and have your pitching hold up to have a good chance, or sell your soul ,as the Braves have apparently done, to some powerful demi-god who concerns themselves with these things.
Time will tell.

NO MORE LIMA TIME!!! PLEASE!!!
i know it wasnt all his fault but still... isnt it beautiful that they can go 4-6 in their last 10 and no one else in the division gains any ground on them. and dont give me that "they're only good cuz they play in a crappy division". a big reason why the teams in the NL East have such bad records is becuz they have to play the Mets so much. I hate Skankee fans like the OP. I have nothing agaist Yankee fans but there arent that many of them. Wag had Enter Sandman long b4 he was a Met so he did not steal it from Rivera.
Mufasa
07-11-2006, 07:35 PM
o yea... correct me if im wrong but dont bitch and moan about "Enter Sandman" because Wag had it first. wikipedia says:
"On Opening Day of 2006, Wagner's entrance in the ninth inning was accompanied by his long-time theme song, Metallica's Enter Sandman. This was notable because New York Yankees reliever Mariano Rivera also used the same song as his entrance music, although Rivera only started using it years after Wagner did. While some New York fans were surprised that both relievers were using the song, Rivera was not bothered. [1]"
i rest my case.
