View Full Version : So, Who Is Everyone Rooting For In The NBA Finals?

Okay, granted, we don't know who is going to be in the NBA Finals representing the Western Conference yet, but we do know after last night's Miami Heat win over the Detroit Pistons, that the Heat will represent the Eastern Conference.
I will be rooting for whoever wins the Western Conference to win it all, Dallas or the Suns. For a couple of reasons. First, Shaq already has three rings, with the Lakers from 2000-2002, and it would be nice to see someone new win the title.
Second, I despise Pat Riley. Although he has won four championships as a coach, he is probably one of the most arrogant, pigheaded, coaches alive. When he used to coach the Knicks in the early 90's, I watched most of his postgame press conferences, and he used to act like he was doing the press a favor by talking to them. Granted, the New York press can be cruel at times, and the Knicks fell short in each of his seasons with them, and never won a title. However, I just never could stand his whole attitude, and the way he dealt with them, and I haven't liked him since.
As for who will actually win the finals. It will be interesting. It will be a battle of Shaq and Wade, and the fine Heat defense, against the shootout West teams of either Dallas or Phoenix. If I were betting, I'd have to take the West, but the Heat have been a bit of a cinderella team so far this postseason, especially against the Pistons, so it's hard to count them out.
I'm going to post a poll, and my pick to win it all is Miami, based on Shaq's three titles, Riley's past Finals experience, and the Heat defense, as defense usually wins games in the postseason, and titles.

Dallas all the way mate!!

I love Dirk Nowitzki, and I love Josh Howard. Avery Johnson is the man.

I think Dallas can beat Miami, and I know they will finish the suns either tonight or game 7 in Dallas.

I don't see any reason why we can't beat the heat. We beat them both times we played them in the regular season, so we should be able to pull it out.

Dallas- I think they'll give the Heat serious match-up problems. Dirk's a nightmare to guard- especially if he takes the much smaller defenders down to the low block. I'm curious as to whether Detroit might have put Ben Wallace on him at times had they advanced. Dallas is just so versatile and they have so much depth. Wade is a handful, but I think they'll meet the challenge.

well, if anyone has been following my words for over a year now, you know i do not like Shaq. so, i have a choice. do i want Shaq with a ring or Mark Cuban?

i guess Mark Cuban has to get one. Shaq winning the NBA title will be horrible for me. it will be a huge slap in the face for the Laker organization who actually did the right thing and traded Shaq. but no one sees that and if Shaq wins, there will be millions of people saying "i told you so." so, go Mavericks!

I pick Dallas in 5 games.

I'd like to see Dallas win, and they have home court, which can help, but two years ago, home court meant nothing, as LA lost in five games, including three in a row on the road.
I think it will be tough, but with Riley and Shaq's considerable experience in the Finals, even though Pat hasnt been there since 12 years ago with the Knicks, I think Miami will win in six games. Usually, the team with home court comes out on top in the Finals, but this is a case where I just think that if Miami plays up to potential, considering their playoff performances this year, that they should beat Dallas.

Shaq held to 5 points?! They are all but done even now I believe. I'm sure they will win one, maybe 2 in Miami, but Dallas will win the series and make it look easy.

I'm glad that Dallas is winning, as I refuse to cheer a team that has a top anti-Knick player in ALonzo Mourning. Seriously, the Heat rebuilt the team just to get past Detroit, but if they kept the personnel, the games would be much closer.
