The Good Guys, with Mitch's emotions on an even keel, embarked on their next road trip. They commenced the trip by taking two of three from Washington, before losing two of three in Philadelphia, and again taking two of three in Cincinnatti. They returned home on a Sunday night, to begin a nine game homestand against the Mets, Braves, and Astros, which would commence the second time through the schedule that year.
When Mitch arrived home from Cincinnatti on Sunday night, Naomi was there as she always was. There was a bit of an air of uncertainity as he returned home. Although they were superficially getting along fine when they were together at home, during that road trip, several exchanges occurred both online, and on the phone, which made it clear that tensions existed just beneath the surface. Naomi kept having wandering thoughts of what would happen when retirement did come, and if they were together much more often, as they had spent much of their marriage with long breaks from each other, during Mitch's road trips. If that year was indeed the end, and they retired for a year, Mitch didnt take an immediate job, or Naomi didnt persue acting jobs, there would be a forced togetherness, that had not existed really at all during their marriage, and what effect this would have, remained to be seen.
They had other business to attend to first. After making love when Mitch arrived home on Sunday, and relaxing for most of the day on Monday, the team gathered at the park for Monday night's 7:35pm game with their archrival opponents, the Mets. Kate Hudson was on the hill that night, and it was a most weird evening. The sky kept changing from crystal clear, to cloudy, to heavy showers, seemingly every fifteen minutes. Play had to be stopped twice, but, when the proceedings were over, Kate had gotten bashed for five runs in six innings, and the Good Guys found themselves on the short end of a 5-4 score. Things weren't any better on Tuesday night, as although Gil Bellows allowed only three runs, the Good Guys could only get two, in a 3-2 setback. Charlize Theron took the hill on Wednesday night, and still, there was no magic. Paradise rallied from a 6-1 deficit, to tie the game, only to lose on a ninth inning homer off Hilary Duff, 7-6, as the Mets completed the sweep, with the Good Guys losing their third straight one run game.
Thursday was an off day. The couple attended counseling that day, a bit down, due to the three losses. They aired their feelings, and walked away feeling a bit better, ready to go back at it against Atlanta the next night.
The Braves entered town on Friday night. It was an unusually struggling Atlanta ballclub whom manager Bobby Cox brought to town that weekend. In the Friday night opener, the game was tied, 1-1 in the eighth, when Mitch hit a Grand Slam homer, in what looked like an easy win. It proved to be anything but, as the pen gave up runs and hits in the ninth, until Naomi came in, and saved the day, in what would turn out to be a 5-4 win. The fifth starter got his usual ass kicking on Saturday night, but, the never say die Good Guys didnt give up. They trailed 5-0 after six innings, and 8-0 after seven, but, in the bottom of the eighth, the roof caved in on Atlanta, as they were hit for nine runs, from a succession of relievers, to take the lead. Duff entered in the ninth, and perserved a 9-8 triumph. Kate Hudson and John Smoltz opposed each other on Sunday afternoon, in front of a sunny, humid sellout of over 52,000. Smoltz got in trouble early, giving up a first inning Grand Slam home run. Then, he became frustrated, and hit the next batter with a pitch, touching off a bench clearing brawl between the Braves and Good Guys , in which both managers, Smoltz, another Brave, and two Good Guy players were ejected. The proceedings calmed down, as Kate Hudson atoned for her previous bad outing that day, fanning thirteen, in a 7-0 triumph, that completed the three game sweep of the slumping Braves, and made up for the humiliation of being swept by the Mets.
Houston was the next visitor, in a series beginning on Monday night. Gil Bellows started, and pitched well, but got no run support, in a 2-0 defeat. Charlize Theron pitched on Tuesday night. She got the team back on the right track, fanning ten, and giving up but three hits, in an eventual 4-1 win. Neve Campbell took the hill on a hot Wednesday afternoon in front of a sellout. The Good Guys fell behind early, 5-0, as Neve got hammered, and it looked like it was going to be a lost day. However, in the sixth, the Good Guys suddenly erupted for five runs, to tie the game, capped off by three run scoring singles, and a Mitch home run. The proceedings were not decided until the eleventh, when the catcher, Barney, drove a ball into the left field bullpen, to come away with a 6-5 win over the Astros, which took two of three for the series, and salvaged a winning five and four homestand. The team was far from satisfied, as they strove for minimum six wins in nine games on any homestand. However, they had won five of six games, with the sweep of Atlanta, and the Astros series win, after the Mets humilation, so, Sniderman and the team packed their bags to head to New York, feeling not as bad as they might have a week earlier after the Mets had swept them.
In the meantime, while all this was going on, Mitch and Naomi had gotten through another homestand without much drama. There was not an excessive amount of sexual activity between them, but nor was it by any means infrequent, or tension filled. It was again, just normal. Their counesling sessions were productive, they weren't overtly bickering, but yet, both parties knew that there were issues beneath the surface that would need to be dealt with before long. Hopefully, those would be worked out, so, that if retirement did come that year, it would come with a loving couple which had understanding, and not a couple filled with tension, and underlying resentment.
Of course, no Good Guys homestand would be complete without the Saturday night tickle party. The featured lee that night would be Nicole Kidman, visiting Paradise for the weekend, to visit with her best friend Naomi. Nicole was always a treat for the players to get their hands on, at any time. She was tied hands and feet to the bed in the middle of the fetish club, Catcher Barney began the tickle on Nicole's neck with fingers, as she shifted her head from side to side, and the giggles began:HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! NO! Moving down, second baseman Russell was next, tickling Nicole on her underarms, down her sides, and in her ribs and belly, as she squealed, and bucked at her restraints:HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! NOOOOOOOOOOO PLEEEEEASE! HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! Finally, Mitch and Naomi saved the best for last, the soles of Nicole's ample feet. Each took a foot, and attacked it with their fingers, a feather, ice, an electric toothbrush, and a vibrating electric massager over her soles and toes. Nicole went ballistic. Naomi had an evil grin on her face, which, when Nicole saw it thru her tears of laughter, drove her beserk! Nicole wiggled her toes every which way, and squealed with hysterical girlish giggles, begging for mercy:HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! OH MY FUCKING GOD! DO NOT TICKLE ME, BEST FRIEND! I KNOW JUST HOW TICKLISH YOU ARE, AND IAM FUCKING GOING TO GET YOU WHEN I GET OUT OF THIS! HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! NOOOOO! Finally, the tickle stopped, and the exhausted Nicole was untied. Nicole did in fact enact revenge on Naomi later that night, as, when Naomi and her were on the dance floor, Nicole sneaked up behind Naomi, and began a tickle attack on her sides, ribs, and back, which caused Naomi to become so hysterical, she lost her balance, and fell to the floor, where Nicole tickled her ribs again, as she was on the floor:HEHEEHEHEHEHEHEHEEHEEHEHEHEHE! OMG I WAS NOT THE ONLY TICKLER! FUCKING LEAVE ME ALONE! WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS TO ONLY ME! HEHEHEHYEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! Finally, after Nicole had stopped, Naomi got up, and had to catch her breath.
Late on Thursday afternoon, the team flew to New York, and, as the plane descended through the sky at dusk, on it's way to the big city, and the start of the ten game road trip, the team was in decent shape, and so were Mitch and Naomi. There were still serious issues that needed to be worked through, but hopefully, progress was being made. First, however, came a ten day road trip, never the team's favorite thing. However, they would be back home soon enough, and when they were, relaxed baseball, and sorting issues would take place again, in the relationship of Mitch and Naomi, and for the Tickle Team of Paradise Island.
