The best advice I can give is try one of the various threads around about NEST or another gathering. A site regarding NEST is www.kittletown.com . As a person who had a rather large price tag on the trip to NEST, I'd also like add, at least in my opinion, it was totally worth it.

As far as why there aren't any gatherings in Australia, all you really need to start one is some initiative and a place to get the word out. The TMF provides the latter. As for getting one started, remember, NEST started out with 8 people and grew slowly from year to year. That'd be the best advice I can give.
