The Good Guys embarked on their first road trip of the year. Their first stop was New York, where they dropped two of three games. They then went to Atlanta, where they swept three games from the reeling Braves. Finally, they ended up in Houston, losing two of three there, which still put them home with a ten and nine record, and a winning road trip. They returned home on a Sunday night, to begin a nine game homestand, against the Midwest teams.
During the early part of the season, the team's indifferent play, and the uncertainity of retirement, caused Mitch to be in a most unhappy mood. On Sunday night, after making love to Naomi, and after the couple fell assleep, Mitch woke up in the middle of the night, screaming Spencer's name at the top of his lungs, waking Naomi. Naomi tried to calm Mitch down:" Spencer is gone, remember, Alan fired him last year. Just relax and play ball, get some sleep" Naomi said, settling back under the covers. In the morning, after the kids had gone off to school, Mitch talked to Naomi about his middle of the night freak out:" I'm sorry about last night. How do you put up with me? I am a wreck" Mitch said. "For better or worse, and nothing you do is that big of a deal. As long as you love me, and we are together, after 20 years, I can deal with the other issues" Naomi said. Mitch didnt understand why he had experienced nightmares about Spencer that week, but he hoped he wouldnt have any more. Inwardly, although it was only April, the Good Guy right fielder felt a pressure to win it all that year that he never had in the past. The couple never was quite sure what would be their last year, and, although they still had over 140 regular season games and the playoffs to go, it was in the back of everyone's mind, even in April, World Series win, or else, nothing less.
First things came first, though, as the Good Guys had regular season games to play. That schedule resumed on Monday night, against Pittsburgh. Kate Hudson was on the hill. Both Kate and her opponent were awesome that night, pitching nine shutout innings each in no decision efforts. The game went on, until the tenth, when a home run by Ed Burns won it, 1-0. Gil Bellows pitched on Tuesday night. Gil had a 3-0 lead in the sixth, before the roof caved in. He allowed a three run homer to tie the game. Then, in the seventh, another Pirate batter hit a two run job off Naomi, with yet another solo shot off Amanda Bynes in the eighth, as the Good Guys fell, 6-3, to a chorus of boos. Charlize Theron took the mound on Wednesday night. This time, Pittsburgh led 3-0 into the sixth, before the Good Guys tied the game with four straight hits, three of which scored runs. Tied, 3-3 in the eighth, Mitch hit a solo home run, to give the team the winning advantage, by a 4-3 score, in a game that was saved by Hilary Duff.
Thursday was an off day. During a counseling session that morning, Naomi told the doctor about Mitch's Spencer nightmares. "I think I am feeling intense pressure to win it all this year, after screwing things up last year in front of the home fans" Mitch said. "It is only April, Mitch, you have almost six months. You will drive yourself crazy if you worry about October now. Take one game at a time, and play them as hard as you can, as best as you can" The therapist said.
Chicago came to town on Friday night. Neve Campbell was on the mound. She held a 2-0 lead into the eighth, before things went sour again. By the end of the inning, the Cubs had four runs, the boo birds were out, and the Good Guys were on their way to losing the game, 5-3. Rachel Leigh Cook gave a very solid effort on Saturday night, eight innings, two runs, excellent for a number five starter. Unfortunately, the Good Guys got only one run that night, and fell, 2-1.
Kate Hudson badly wanted a win on a sunny, beautiful, 82 degree April Sunday in front of a sellout. She pitched her heart out, striking out nine batters in six innings, and leaving, in scoreless tie, after eight innings, having at that point fanned eleven Cubs. In the bottom half, someone on the Good Guy bench tried to rally the troops:" The girl has pitched seventeen shutout innings this week, and has one no decision, and another one staring her in the face. Let's get this one for Katie, she's pitched her ass off, if we dont score she gets her second no decision of the week." Suddenly, at that point, the team was saved, as two bloop hits, were followed by a Mitch home run, and the Good Guys hung on, 3-0, with Duff gaining the save, and Kate gaining credit for a well deserved win.

Now the team sorely wanted to win the next two games, to avoid having a losing homestand. Charlize Theron pitched on Tuesday night, and tossed a very uneven game, leaving down 4-1 after six. In the eighth, down by that score, and with top Cards closer Jason Isringhausen looming in the ninth, the Good Guys struck. A bloop hit was followed by a double, which was then followed by a Mitch three run homer, to tie the game. In the ninth, Center Fielder Ed Burns put a very quick ending to the night's proceedings, by blasting a first pitch home run down the right field line, to give the Good Guys a thrilling 5-4 win. Trailing, 2-0, in the eighth, the Good Guys got three hits to tie the game. In the ninth, tied, 2-2, a single was followed by a double, that scored the winning run, in another exciting 3-2 Good Guy victory, that at least completed another winning homestand. The team was not at it's sharpest on the field, but they were surviving, hoping that better times were to come.

"When I get out of this, Australian, and we get home tonight, your feet are mine!" Mitch said, in a cocky tone. "Maybe, maybe not, but not before you get it good" Naomi said, confidently. With that, three doms dressed in police uniforms entered the club, went over to the table, and started on Mitch. The first dom ran long red fingernails on Mitch's neck, as his head shifted from side to side, and the laughter began:HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! NOOO! Moving down, another dom tickled Mitch on his underarms, sides, and counted his ribs with long red fingernails, as he bucked and howled: HAHAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! LONG NAILS KILLL NOOOO! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Then, the third dom joined in, tickling Mitch on his hips, inner thighs, and behind his knees, causing his legs to jerk, and more howls: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA! NO! Finally, two of the doms positioned themselves at his feet. They attacked his feet with long red nails, and also tickled them with feathers, ice, and electric toothbrushes over his soles. Mitch went ballistic, jerking his feet and wiggling his toes every which way, howling with laughter, and begging for mercy: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! OMG PLEASE NO MORE! I GIVE UP! NO PLEASE NO! HHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Finally, the tickle ended, and he was untied. That night, when the couple got home, Mitch DID in fact get revenge on Naomi, tying her up for an hour, and tickle torturing her soles and toes with his fingers, all different instruments, and his tounge. Having a switch husband could be fun, but Naomi knew he would get revenge, and he did!
