I know you're probably not in the greatest of spirits today....when I had my 30th birthday 3 years ago I was a maniacally depressed basket case for two weeks. NOTHING could tear me out of my funk, and I spent most of the time crying. It hit me hard, and I've seen you mention how much you've been dreading this yourself, so all I can say is I know, I've been there, and I understand.

I do hope the picture I selected for your card puts at least a little smile on your face, though.

Being male, you can never understand because you're not put under the same age/appearence restrictions as women. Now I'm not only too fat to ever be seen as a desirable, sexy woman, I'm now too old as well. Take a look at the stories the men here write and the drawings they do. 99.9% of the women are between 18 and 25, six feet tall, and 120 pounds. I'm now 100% undatable. Doomed to a lifetime alone with only a vibrator for satisfaction. *sighs*

Hmm. Sorry, but seeing that I've dated women as old as 57, I don't see it. In fact, in the last 5 or 6 years only a few of my partners have been under 25.

As for that, though, I mentioned that I date a woman in her late 50s from time to time. When she has time for me, that is. She's living with one man and seeing at least two others that I know of besides me. I've met them, and they seem sane enough. Yet it's been a long time since she was either young or svelte.

My wife is 44, and not as slim as she would like to be. However she has me, a female partner, and another male partner about 10 years younger than she is. She keeps pretty busy.

Your ideas about yourself surely reflect the reality that you see, Jami. But the one that you see isn't the only one. I'd like you to sample mine. Consider it a birthday present.

Somewhere along the line you picked up what amounts to a religious conviction that "society's rules" apply to you more strictly than they do to anyone else. So be it.
