The Good Guys finished the rest of the regular season on a high note, winning the division by a comfortable margin. With their 97 wins, they assured themselves home field advantage until the World Series, which would have home field advantage for the American League team that year.
Tha Division Series began on a Tuesday afternoon in Paradise, against St Louis. Kate Hudson, of course, started, and pitched a fine game, allowing but two runs in seven innings, as the Good Guys got four themselves, and came away with a 4-2 win. Gil Bellows started Game Two on Wednesday afternoon, and he, too, pitched very well, allowing three runs into the seventh, as the Paradise bats were once again booming, in a 5-3 win, to take a two game to none series lead.
After an off day on Thursday, Charlize Theron took the ball for Game Three in St Louis on Friday night. She gave a credible effort, permitting but three runs, but, it was not enough, in a 3-2 setback. Kate had the ball again for Game Four, and the Good Guys did their work early, silencing a big Cardinal crowd, with a five run first inning, en route to a 6-0 whitewashing. One series down, two to go, hopefully.
The team flew back to Paradise, and rested for three days, with Game One of the National League Championship Series against the Mets in Paradise on Tuesday night. Gil Bellows was the starter, and he did his job just fine, allowing one run into the eighth, as the Good Guys attack got only two, which was just enough, in a 2-1 win, to draw first blood. Charlize Theron took the ball in Game Two, and the Good Guys bats were booming that day, scoring sixteen runs, an NLCS record, and bashing the Mets, 16-4, to take a two game to none lead in the series. So far, it had been all Good Guys, but the team knew the series was far from over.
The teams flew to New York on the off day, to prepare for Game Three at Shea Stadium on Friday night. Kate Hudson was the starter. She pitched quite well, allowing only three runs in six innings, but, the Good Guys could not score many runs for her, and the team was handed a 3-1 setback, for the Mets first win of the series. Gil Bellows had the ball for Game Four at Shea on Saturday night. He didnt pitch brilliantly, but he got fine run support from his teammates, as the Good Guys scored five runs early, and never looked back, in a 5-3 triumph, to put them one win from returning to the World Series. Game Five was never a contest. With Charlize looking to close out the Mets, the New Yorkers rose to the occasion, and scored eight runs in the first inning, pummeling the Good Guys 14-3. While the team was disappointed with the loss, they also knew they were headed back to Paradise, with two chances to close out the Mets at home.
The atmosphere was electric for Game Six in Paradise on Tuesday night. Kate Hudson was the starter. Although she did not have her best stuff, she wasnt pitching badly. The game was moving along, tied, 2-2 in the fifth, when suddenly, things began to fall apart for the Paradise Islanders in the field. Three throwing errors, and four runs later, the Mets had a big lead, one that closer Billy Wagner did not give back in the ninth. The Mets, after being down three games to one, had forced Game Seven, and, what looked like a romp, would now be a survival fight to the death.
Gil Bellows would face Tom Glavine in Game Seven of the National League Championship Series. The Mets struck early, nicking Bellows for a run in the first, and another in the second. The Mets held the lead, until the sixth, when the Good Guys got four hits, to tie the game. After the game went to the eighth, tied, the Mets got a huge lift, when Carlos Delgado hit a long homer, to give New York the lead. Six outs, and the Good Guys would be going home early. To their credit, the Good Guys didnt give up, and scored a run in the bottom of the eighth, to tie the score. The teams took the field, for the ninth, tied, 3-3. A bloop hit was followed by an infield hit. Then, in a break from the "book", New York manager Willie Randolph, brought in his closer, Billy Wagner, to try and keep the game tied. The manager was figuring that if he was going to lose, it might as well be with his best. Wagner got two outs, and then, with shortstop Tom Cruise due up, Cruise, a pesky singles hitter, was exactly the kind of hitter that would drive a pitcher nuts in that situation. Cruise fouled off a few pitches, and then, hit a seeing eye ground ball, that skipped past third baseman David Wright. The runner rounded third, and came home, the throw to the plate was.... not in time! Good Guys win the series in seven games! They were the National League Champions, and headed to the World Series! Again! The park was absolute bedlam, as the Paradise Islanders mobbed one another at home plate, hugging with laughter, tears, and celebration. After the commotion had settled down, the team retired to the clubhouse, for a racous celebration. One commentator came up to manager Lee Sniderman, and asked him about Game One of the World Series. The manager quipped:" I am not thinking about that yet. I'll think about it tomorrow. Right now, I just want to savor this!" The surly manager shot back.
The whole island was in a state of euphoria, and, in reality, the team had one more mile to go, the biggest mile.
After a day to rest, the rather tired Paradise Island team, boarded a plane to New York for Game One of the World Series, as the Yankees had the home field advantage that year. Kate Hudson was on the mound on Saturday night, with 60,000 Yankee faithful in the stands, rooting for their team to get revenge on the Good Guys, for their hard loss the year before. For a while, it looked like the Good Guys were going to steal Game One. Kate pitched exceptionally well, but, then again, so did Yankee starter Chin Min Wang. The Good Guys had a 1-0 lead in the eighth, when, suddenly, Kate ran out of gas, and the bullpen got torched. At the end of the inning, the Yankees had four runs, a three run lead, and Rivera would protect that lead, to draw first blood, and perhaps, psychological momentum. As much as the team tried to forget about that game, it is likely that the game set the tone for the Series.
Gil Bellows took the ball in Game Two. The game was never a contest, as Bellows and his early relief got bashed early, and the Yankees won going away, 7-2, to take a two game to none lead in the series. The Good Guys had looked awful in New York, and it remained to be seen if home cooking would snap them out of their funk.
After a light workout on Monday, the teams met at Good Guy Stadium for Game Three on Tuesday night. In spite of the Good Guys being two games down, neither the team nor their fans thought they were out. The task would be daunting, but the team would fight. With Charlize on the mound, the Good Guys struck early. It was a must win game for Paradise. The team eventually built a 5-1 lead off Yankee starter Mike Mussina, who was chased by the fifth. However, the never say die Yankees, looking like they were on a mission, chipped away, and, trailing 5-4 in the ninth, Jason Giambi rocked Hilary Duff, for a long homer, to tie the game. In the tenth, with Amanda Bynes pitching, the Yankees hit another homer, and Mr Rivera put the Good Guys away in the bottom half, to put the Paradise Island team one loss from winter.
Game Four would be a rematch of the starting pitchers from Game One, Kate Hudson and Chin Min Wang. The Good Guys needed a good effort from Kate. She gave it her best, but the opportunistic Yankees scored three third inning runs off her, silencing the huge crowd. Inning after inning went by, with Wang putting down the Good Guys with sheer ease. In the ninth, trailing 4-1, Rivera came in again, and did his thing, with Mitch hitting a shallow fly ball to left, to end the game, as the Yankees had a 4-1 win, and a four game series sweep, the first time either team had been swept in all their World Series confrontations. The others, had been dramatic. This one, almost looked like a set of spring training games, with a good team dominating a bad one. The fans, although very disappointed, gave the Good Guys an ovation for their fine season. In the clubhouse interviews, there was speculation on both sides about the loss, with the media asking the Good Guys if they were "flat". "I dont think you are ever "flat" in games of a magnitude such as these. I do think that maybe we exerted so much effort in trying to get past the Mets, that by the time we got here, we were just plain exhausted. We are human, and the Yankees are a fine team. They had something to prove after we beat them last year, and they did. I congratulate them, accept the National League title, and hope to face them again next year, and stand here as a World Champion" Manager Sniderman said.
The next morning, the Paradise Island media, usually kind to the Good Guys, as the team was usually the island's darlings, win or lose, printed some screaming back page headlines about the team's setback in the series. One headline read: SWEPT AWAY! While another crowed:ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR, AND NO MORE! Still another said, ONE, TWO, THREE, FOUR,... LIKE PUTZES! The team was not pleased about the harsh media coverage, but knew they probably deserved it. In reality, maybe they were tired, or flat. While other losses had hurt far more, this one was just frustrating. They would have the long winter to reflect, and knew what their goal was next year.
In the meantime, the team held it's final tickle party, on Thursday night, before scattering for the winter. Had they survived, they would have been playing baseball that night. Instead, they tried to amuse themselves with one last tickle gathering, before heading to the winter. The featured lee would be a very cute hair stylist, who often styled the female members hair, after games. The cute petite blonde was tied hands and feet to the table, in the middle of the fetish club, in a bra and panties. Third baseman Michael began the tickle on her neck with fingers, as her head shifted from side to side, and the giggles began:HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! Moving down, left fielder Dawson was next, tickling the hairstylist on her underarms, sides, ribs and belly with fingers, as she squealed, and thrashed:HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! NOOOOO! Working down, Center Fielder Ed Burns was next, tickling the hair girl on her hips, inner thighs, and behind her knees with fingers, causing more squeals and her legs to buck:HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! Finally, Mitch positioned himself at the soles of the hair girl's feet. He attacked her pretty feet with his fingers, two feathers, an electric massager, and yes, hairbrush bristles over her soft soles and toes. The hair girl went beserk, wiggling her toes every which way, and screaming with laughter, begging for mercy:HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! OMG PLEASE NO MORE! I CANT STAND IT! I GIVE UP! NOOOOO! HEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! Finally, the tickle ended, and the exhausted hair girl was untied.
So, it had been a thrilling postseason, until the World Series, which ended in great disappointment. While the team was not happy with the way they had played in the World Series, they knew there was always next year for redemption. Yes, next year they could always win the title back, as they were the ever fighting Tickle Team From Paradise Island.

The End

After the powerful playing before the world series I thought for sure the Good Guys would make a good run for it. I didn't think that they would get swept. But there is always another season. Great story as always and I look forward to the next one.

Happy, as I'm sure you know, there have been teams which had great World Series runs, and then been swept. My Braves had series of seven games, six games, six games, and six games, in their first four World Series Appearances in 1991, 1992, 1995, and 1996. Then, in 1999, the Yankees swept them four in a row. Also, I figured that since I probably wanted the Good Guys to lose this year, since they had won the previous year, and they had already lost other series in five, six, and seven games, that it was probably time for them to get swept in four. Just a feeling is all.
Anyhow, thanks for the support, and stay tuned, a new season will be forthcoming soon.

Mitch
