The Good Guys embarked on their next road trip. They began well, by sweeping three straight in Pittsburgh. After that, things went south, as they lost two of three in both Chicago and St Louis. They returned home, on a Sunday evening, to begin a nine game homestand the following night.
Earlier that day, from St Louis, Mitch had called Naomi, and asked her if she wanted to have a late dinner out, upon his return to the Bahamas, and Naomi agreed. She was to have picked him up at Nassau International, and then, they were either going to head over to Cable Beach, or, back to Paradise, in time to have a gormuet dinner, at one of the island's fine resturants.
When Mitch's plane touched down at Nassau International, at 8pm that evening, Naomi, usually a stickler for being on time, was not there. Mitch was a bit concerned, but figured perhaps that maybe she was delayed. While she of course had other friends besides her teammates, her main confidants, Kate Hudson, Amanda Bynes, and Hilary Duff, had, of course, arrived with the rest of the team from St Louis. Mitch waited in front of the terminal for fifteen minutes, called Naomi's cell phone, and the apartment's two numbers, all to no answer, and decided to head home in a cab. He was now getting increasingly concerned. During the 20 minute drive from Nassau International to the apartment, Mitch wondered if Naomi had perhaps fallen assleep on the sofa, or had gotten sidetracked in a conversation with Nicole Kidman. Why, however, had she not answered the phone? When Mitch got to the building, he went upstairs to the apartment, and found no one home. Now he was really worried. No note had been left, and there was no sign of Naomi, or his three children. He began calling teammates, and places on the island, where everyone was known, to ask if anyone had seen Naomi, and no one had. Now he wondered if maybe there had heaven forbid been some kind of accident. Mitch called Lee Sniderman, who had just arrived home himself, and Lee advised him to wait a couple of hours, to see if Naomi showed up.Mitch agreed, but was still freaking out. Somehow, in his reign of upset feelings, Mitch fell into a slumber on the couch, and slept. Finally, at 5am, as the sun was rising, the phone rang, and it was oldest daughter Erin:" Dad, I'm sorry no one called you until now, we just found out ourselves. Mom had an accident, and is in Nassau Hospital. Get down here right away" His daughter's voice said.
Mitch hopped in a cab, too shaken to drive, and went to the hospital. He ran through the corridors like a madman, not knowing what had happened to his wife. When he finally reached the nurses station, he could hardly breathe: "N.. Naomi Watts, I'm her husband. What's wrong with her? My daughter told me she had an accident" Mitch said, struggling to get the words out. The nurse looked at Naomi's chart, and then looked up:" Yes, Mr C, she had a fall. Her left leg was severely cut, and she lost a lot of blood. She's stable, but she needed over one hundred stitches to close a pretty nasty wound. I'll take you in to see her. She's stable, and sleeping. We put her on antibiotics, and pain meds" Mitch was led to the room, where Naomi slept. He sat down on the bed, and touched her face with his hand:"Nai". Naomi opened her eyes, and mumbled recognition:" Hey, American, what the hell took you so long to get here." She said "No one even told me until a few minutes ago. My God, Nai, what the hell happened? How the hell did you fall and cut yourself so badly?" Mitch replied "I was at the mall, walking around, yesterday, before you came home. I was bored. You know those glass siderails and windows? One of the walkways gave way, and I fell, a pretty long way. I crashed through a skylight, and cut my leg. I'll have scars. I wont be Miss hottie legs anymore. You going to divorce me, American, and find someone with perfect legs?" She joked. "Are you kidding me? There's not a chance in hell of that happening. So fuck it if you dont have perfect legs. You are still you, and I have loved you for 25 years, perfect legs or not. The main thing is that you're going to be alright" Mitch said, hugging Naomi. "There's something else. As you can probably guess, my season is over, and, they said, maybe my career. They don't know if I will be able to push off the leg to pitch, or if the strain of pitching, and the wear and tear on my feet and legs, would cause the scars to open, and bleed, dangerously, so, I'll go into next year being a very big question mark. You can still play if you want to, but I may be done, can you deal with that?" She asked. "Yes, I can deal with it. We'll figure it out. Right now, you just have to worry about getting well. I love you, whether you're the pitcher for the Paradise Island Good Guys, or not" Mitch said, hugging her. "I want to sleep. I'm very tired" She said, drifting off. "Do you want me to go?" Mitch asked. "No, stay here. Sit with me. You dont have to go anywhere" She replied. "What about playing tonight?" Mitch asked. "Go play. You cant stay here after a certain hour anyway. You have to go do your job. I'm fine. You cant sit here with me 24-7 just looking at me" Naomi mumbled. Soon, Mitch and Naomi fell into long slumbers. Mitch wasnt even hungry. He just wanted to sit with his wife.
Late that afternoon, about 5pm, Mitch was stirred by a tap on his shoulder. It was Kate Hudson. "Hey, homerun hitter, how you doing? You going to play with us tonight? I can drive you to the park, and then home" She said. "Thanks, Katie. I'm too upset to drive. Yeah, I'm going, Nai wants me to play. I dont want to upset her anymore than she is, so to heck with it. I'll suit up, and take a few swings" Mitch said. Mitch kissed Naomi on the top of the head. "Have a good night. I'll be back in the morning. I love you, k?" Mitch whispered. Mitch and Kate arrived at the park about 6, and walked into the locker room:" Hey, there's my star player. I guess you decided to join us tonight" Sniderman said. "My head really isnt into it, but yeah, I' m in there. Nai wants me to play, and I dont want to upset her, so just put me in there, and I'll do the best I can" Mitch said. When Mitch took the field for batting practice, many in the crowd of over 30,000 were holding signs of support and prayers for Naomi. Seeing those touched Mitch greatly. When the game started, Mitch, his mind distracted, came up in the first inning, and somehow, hit a home run. The crowd went wild. Perhaps, in some odd way, Mitch felt an obligation, to reward the fans for their support. Kate Hudson pitched a gem that night, allowing only one run, as the Good Guys won, 4-1. For Mitch, it was a hallow victory, as he wondered, looking at the field, if he would ever see his beloved Naomi walk out onto the field as a Good Guys active player again.
The following days were much like the first one. Mitch would awaken by seven, spend time with his kids, shower, shave, head to the hospital, spend time with Naomi until late afternoon, eat, digest his food, and then head to the park. The Good Guys split the next two games with the Giants, losing 5-4 on Tuesday night, before capturing a 6-3 Wednesday night win, behind Charlize Theron.
Thursday was an off day. Naomi, her cuts healing, but still not 100%, was expected to be hospitalized until the following Wednesday, when Mitch would take her home. That day, he intended to spend all day at the hospital, but Naomi, now recovering, and out of a slumber, had other ideas. "You cant sit here all day for twelve hours just looking at me. Go meet the team, go to the casino, bet some horses, lose some of our money" Naomi said. "Will you shut up. I am your husband. I have every damn right to be here if I want to. If I feel like sitting here, and staring at you for twelve hours, that is my damn right, Aussie potty mouth" Mitch shot back. Naomi began to giggle:" I'm laid up, and we're still fighting. God, what a pair we are" Mitch took Naomi's hands, tears in his eyes. "I love you, okay, I have the rest of my life to fight with you, if you want, just dont go anywhere. I need you, for a long, long time, okay?" Mitch said, his voice choking. "Well, American, except to hopefully go home, with you, before you go away again, and get out of this damn hospital, I plan on sticking around for a while. You aren't getting rid of me that easily" Naomi shot back. "I'm not going away. I'm going to tell Lee I am skipping the trip to California. I want to be here to take care of you" Mitch replied. "You will do no such thing, American, you are going on the damn trip. The team needs you. I will be fine. I have three kids to look after me, friends, a housekeeper. I dont need you to stay here" Naomi shot back. Mitch was silent and didnt say anything. He knew that when Naomi demanded something, he couldnt get her to change her mind. She was the most accomadating wife, but also pigheaded, and stubborn. He knew he had to go on that trip, or there would be hell to pay.
San Diego came to town on Friday. Neve Campbell was on the mound, and the Good Guys got absolutely no runs, and lost, 4-0. Rachel Leigh Cook had the ball on Saturday night, and she, too, took the loss, falling 4-1, as the Good Guys were not scoring runs. Kate Hudson would be on the mound on a sunny Sunday, in front of a sellout. Kate was dominant that day, striking out thirteen Padres, and allowing only three hits. The Good Guys still didnt get many runs, and the bats were quiet, but they did get two runs, which fortunately, were enough, to win the game, 2-0.
The Dodgers entered Paradise on Monday, in the last series of the homestand. Gil Bellows had the ball on Monday. He pitched a fine game, and the Good Guys hit some as well, scoring five runs, to come away with a 5-3 win. It was back to offensive slumber land on Tuesday, as Charlize Theron allowed three runs, but the Good Guys got absolutely none, and were defeated, 3-0. Neve Campbell took the mound, on a sunny Wednesday, in front of a sellout. That day, the offensive woes ended, as the Good Guys rewarded their fans, by scoring seven runs in the first inning, and never looking back, coming away with a 7-4 Good Guy win, that salvaged a winning five and four homestand. The team had always strove to do better than that at home, but considering Naomi's situation, to escape with a winning homestand wasnt bad.
In the meantime, the team did hold a Saturday tickle party, following the loss to the Padres. The featured lee would be Mitch, whom everyone decided needed to loosen up, following his troubled times. He was stripped to his boxers, and tied hands and feet to the tickle table, with rope. Kate Hudson began the tickle on Mitch's neck with fingers, as his head shifted from side to side, and the laughter began:HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA! NO! Working down, Amanda Bynes was next, attacking Mitch on his underarms, sides, ribs, and belly with fingers, as more howls erupted from him:HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA! Moving down, Hilary Duff was the next ler, tickling Mitch on his hips, inner thighs, and behind his knees with fingers, causing his legs to jerk, and buck:HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! Finally Rachel Leigh Cook, often a Mitch tickle target, got rare revenge on her ler nemsis, by attacking Mitch's feet with her fingers, feathers, an electric toothbrush, and ice, on his soles and toes. Mitch went beserk, wiggling his toes every which way, and howling with laughter:HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAAH! OMG OKAY OKAY! I GIVE UP! NOOOOO! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Finally, the tickle ended, and Mitch was untied, with only one thought in his mind:" I wish it was Nai who was tickling me"
On Thursday, Mitch went to pick Naomi up at the hospital, to take her home, before having to get to Nassau International, to catch the team flight to San Francisco. "I can still cancel the trip, and not go, just say the word" Mitch said. "The only words I will be saying to you, for ten days, if you dont go, are bad words, American, from anger, that you are not listening to me. I tell you, I am fine. The team needs you . Go, play well, and I will be right here when you get back" Naomi said. "Okay, your wish is my command. I love you, Australian, and be careful, okay?" Mitch said. "You are the one who needs to be careful. I'm just going to be sitting here for ten days, watching you, and other things, on TV" Naomi shot back. Mitch then grabbed his bag, gave Naomi a long kiss on the lips, and headed out the door, to his cab, and the airport, and the flight, to San Francisco.
So, it had been a very rough homestand. Naomi's accident had cast a shadow over the season, her career, and hers and Mitch's whole futures. Would she heal, and ever be able to pitch again? What would happen? That mystery would be unravled, likely very slowly, as Naomi healed, and events played out, for her, Mitch, and the rest of the Tickle Team From Paradise Island.

The End

Well that puts a damper on the rest of the season for the star couple. It would be interesting to see what will happen at the end now. Another great one and I look forward to the next.

HappyD

Thank you, happy, Your praise is appreciated, as always. Yeah, that is a bummer, and Mitch might be having to deal with worse news as well, so it will be interesting to see if it goes from bad to worse.
As always, stay tuned, there will be more to come soon.

Mitch
