Every thought I have is fascinating.

  1. The great Gilbert Gottfried

    Delivery is everything...

  2. I adopted a dog

by , 09-19-2010 at 11:21 AM (Every thought I have is fascinating.)
For the last year, I've been babysitting Amanda's (brighteyes) dogs once a week, and really falling in love with them. But my apartment was in a building with a no-dogs policy, and they eventually got around to cracking down on it.

    So I moved.

Amanda used to live in a really great dog friendly apartment complex with a dog park, stocked fishing pond, gym, and heated pool, and the rent was almost exactly the same as what I was paying. And it's only ten minutes from the ...
  3. Learning to cook

by , 07-07-2010 at 10:31 AM (Every thought I have is fascinating.)

For about the last year I've been trying to learn to cook, and so this spring I took a cooking class that ended up being a ton of fun, and I learned a lot and cooked some amazing food. It was a small class, only five or six people depending on how many showed up, and more women than men (which is always a plus.) It's been about six months since I started this program, which seems like a good time to be discussing the impact that it's had on me, because it's all pretty fresh in my mind and I can still remember what it felt like before I started down this road. There have been a lot of benefits from changing the way that I think about food and eating, and not all of them came directly from having lost weight.

The most obvious is that I look better and feel better, and that's probably in order
  5. Dieting II - The Experience

by , 11-28-2009 at 11:17 AM (Every thought I have is fascinating.)
I talked a little bit in the last blog about never feeling hungry during this process, and that's absolutely true. But I want to get a little more specific by talking about two different meanings of that word.

I heard a tape by Deepak Chopra once in which he talked about two different hungers: "stomach hunger," which is when your body is empty of fuel and your stomach is growling, and "mouth hunger," which is when you have the impulse to shove food in your mouth for no good reason
