Taking precautions does NOT make you a Wuss, it makes you unselfish...

Rate this Entry
I think of the COVID 19 precautions like Seatbelts in one sense....

Am I annoyed they're mandated? Sure, but I don't feel like becoming Roadkill
so I usually wear one, whether or not it's law.
I'm not immature & spiteful; I won't refuse to wear one JUST because someone else is ordering me to do so.

I'll do it simply because I know it's the smart thing to do.

You wear a seatbelt, right, because it makes sense? You're not a wuss; you wear it and you avoid becoming Hamburger, very simple.

(Those who don't wear one may rocket through the windshield, hit the pavement at 35-80+ mph... the vehicle may follow.... AND THEY'LL become Ground Beef either way. Not smart... but they're "only" killing themselves.)

See Darwinism.

*
The difference NOW is -- (a mask, distancing and not gathering) are like wearing "Seatbelts" for EVERYONE ELSE around you.... SO much more at stake.

With a highly infectious virus that you're MUCH more likely to encounter than a car accident.

It's not just about protecting yourself,

it's about protecting everyone you care for
and any strangers you may later meet.

I can be a Selfish Immature Wuss also, but have enough self control.... I had COVID and may still have some immunity.
I'm also ******* asthmatic (so I was really lucky and yes it got quite bad)
--- and always wear a mask around others in public.

So I almost want to laugh at people who claim they have a "medical reason" not to wear a mask but are screaming bloody effing murder at the top of their apparently perfectly fine lungs at tired, underpaid employees,
spewing germs and not giving a crap who they may infect (if they're carriers, nobody knows...)
when they could at worst arrange to pick up their goods outside the store rather than being totally selfish assholes.

I TRY NOT to be a spoiled Ugly American,
whining about less than a year of partial inconveniences while hundreds of thousands die or are maimed around me during a global pandemic that's affected millions.

(Not even discussing the politics or horrendous economic impact -- if everyone had taken care, this could've been contained so much better --- and STILL CAN BE, until there's a vaccine available.... in just a few months.)

Our medical professionals & our military put up with far, far more deprivation and inconvenience on a daily basis...
(As does much of the world, actually...)

If you care about ANYONE else around you, please wear a mask (over the nose...), keep apart and just this ONE year (!!) geez...
Zoom the holidays please. Save a family member.

I don't want to read YOUR obituary either.

Driving a few decades, one minor bumper incident so far.

COVID appears, I get it full blown within just a few months but narrowly avoid a ventilator.

COVID is now the 3rd leading cause of death in the U.S. Not counting the (millions?) left with medical difficulties.

Or maybe I'm just being a repetitive PITA Windbag because I don't know if I infected an elderly couple in a drugstore
when they did a 180 and suddenly veered into my airspace, moving quickly for a couple that was sharing a cart, leaning on it.

I was wearing a mask (fully) & was trying to keep away just in case ---- but later found out I was quite contagious at that time.
No idea who they are so I have no way to know.... Many people don't know they have it ---

Please take serious care & be patient. it's just a few more months....

Frenzy., to me, the precautions are automatic.

Sit down dining is open in NYC, for the moment.

The other day I was in an almost empty restaurant.

I was eating, and my mask was down of course.

I had to use the restroom, and just went to dash to the restroom.

The manager, of the place, where I go to often, asked me to put it up.

Even when I was outside today.

Quite a few people I passed, were not wearing masks.

It irritated me, but of course I said nothing, I just stayed far away from them.

To me, better to follow precaution, and be as safe as possible, rather than sorry.
Thanks, Mitchell, you're a kind soul.

At least you had a reason to not wear a mask for a few minutes and I'm sure you were polite about it when asked to put it back up.

(I won't sit in a restaurant until there's a vaccine personally, I've seen too much & heard from restaurant people...).

Outside it depends upon how close you are -- in close quarters on crowded sidewalks I'd definitely wear a mask!

Some people think, oh, the percentages are small.... but they're not when one includes those who are asymptomatic, carriers
and/or those who will wind up with damaged organs.... we don't know yet how extensive or long lasting those damages will be.

I'm glad you're being careful and hope you stay well!

"Better to have a Zoom Thanksgiving than an ICU Christmas"

(Or Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, insert your holiday). Be well!
