I found a thread like this but it hasn't been updated in almost 10 years, so i thought it would be more appropriate to make a new one. Share your list of shows!

I haven't seen many live shows, but the few I have seen were really amazing:

Contemporary Music:

-The Offspring
-Korn
-Nightwish (twice)
-Epica
-:bubbleheart:Tarja:bubbleheart: Turunen (thrice )
-Les Malpolis (twice)

I have NEVER seen Metallica :sadcry: They came to Beijing a few years back, but I did not have time to fill up the online form before it was sold out :ignite:

Comedy:

-Dieudonné
-Rowan Atkinson (twice)

Opera & Classical:

-All the classic ones, but I have a special place in my heart for anything Wagner and Puccini's Tosca. My great-grandfather would hate me for that, but oh well :D My dream is actually to go to the Bayreuth festival with my wife :bubbleheart:

- Back in France I actually had a subscription to the Grand Théâtre. I would just waltz in (pun intended :D) and watch anything I liked: concerts, opera, stage plays...

Foo Fighters
Supergrass
Minus the Bear
Toad the Wet Sprocket
Snow Patrol
Billy Joel
Jukebox the Ghost
Regina Spektor
Ingrid Michaelson
Pearl and the Beard
...and a ton of little local bands nobody would have heard of.

I've seen The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and Belly about six times each, because they were local acts in Boston. I got a bloody lip in the Bosstones' mosh pit once :)

I saw Ween and Fishbone at the Middle East in Cambridge, I think on the same night although it was 25 years ago so I might be blurring two memories together. Fishbone did an awesome cover of Love Me Two Times by The Doors where the lead singer imitated Jim Morrison by singing through a megaphone.

And Ween had put a notice on their last CD saying "We're starving artists so instead of throwing bras, please throw food," and people tossed packages of chicken onto the stage.

I saw Nine Inch Nails twice, once by themselves and once at Lollapalooza.

I saw Guns N Roses and Aerosmith together once - GNR stayed at the hotel where I worked and their manager offered to put our name on a list to get in if we'd distribute their schedule to all the band and crew overnight. It was me and a security guard who was a cop during the day, and when we got there there were no tickets.

I probably would have just left because what can you do? But he was pissed and found some off-duty cops who were working security and told them what happened, and they let us just walk in. We ended up getting pretty good seats.

I went to Lollapalooza three times so I saw so many bands that there's no way I could remember them all. But the ones I explicitly remember were

Pearl Jam (They stayed at the hotel I worked at, and when I brought Eddie Vedder room service, he was smoking a joint in his room and he must have been lonely because he invited me to hang out. But we were so busy that night that I had to leave. Looking back, I should have said fuck it and stayed.)
Soundgarden
Ministry (they were AMAZING live.)
Alice in Chains
Primus
Ice Cube
Sonic Youth (who I remember for their excruciatingly long improvised ending - I wasn't a fan and it was like they just started making noise with their instruments and dragged it out for like 20-30 minutes.)
Hole (Courtney Love rocked harder than anyone else I've ever seen.)
Beck (I remember that the stands almost emptied out during his set for some reason. Maybe because it was the middle of the day, but nobody cared about him.)
The Red Hot Chili Peppers
Cyprus Hill (they had a giant bong on stage, and if I remember right it had actual weed in it, although that may have just been a rumor in the crowd)
Arrested Development
Rage Against The Machine
The Jesus and Mary Chain (I didn't know who they were, and don't really know now either, but for some reason I explicitly remember them from the show.)

Edit: And I saw Edie Brickell and New Bohemians at the Orpheum Theater, and I also saw the Black Crows there.

Edit again: I also saw Til Tuesday at the Orpheum. That was the first concert I ever went to.

One more story - at one of the Lollapaloozas one of the second stage acts was the Jim Rose Sadism and Masochism Circus Sideshow. My friend and I were able to hop up onto a wall and get an amazing view of the whole thing.

During the introduction the Ringmaster, Jim Rose, gave an announcement to the crowd that went like this - "Some of what you're going to see is gross. Some of it is shocking. Some of it will disturb you. But it's all real. During the show, some people WILL pass out. When that happens, will the people around them please raise your hands so the EMTs at the edge of the crowd can come in and find them easily."

So the show goes on and I remember there was a guy who drank something incredibly disgusting, then puked it up and drank it again. And there was a guy who could eat things like whole eggs (numbered) and bring them back up intact, or in a specific order. He ate needles and thread and then produced them back out of his stomach with the needles threaded together. It sounds like it would be sleight of hand, but he's actually become somewhat famous since then - it's a thing he can really do.

And then there was a guy who would pierce himself - he stuck a long needle through his cheek, and punctured his own abdomen.

Then he took a thin little needle and carefully poked it in one side of his own eyeball and out the other side. (Which even today I am not sure was fake)

And immediately ten different clusters of hands all shot up simultaneously throughout the crowd to indicate where people had hit the ground :)

Thanks for reminding me, I saw Fishbone, and Ween as well. Both did great shows, hung out with Ween backstage before one of 'em.

FISHBONE was a FANTASTIC live band, saw them a few times, there's a band that NEVER gets credit anymore, but was one of THE bands to see during the late 80s, early 90s. Funny, they were part of the same Los Angeles scene as Chili Peppers, Guns & Roses and Jane's Addiction, but never get the same amount of credit.

Anyways, great to envision Jeff moshing it up at the Bosstones show!

****
Additions to my list:
Peter Gabriel
Arrested Development (thanks for the reminder Jeff!)
Sonic Youth (thanks for the reminder Jeff!)
Orbital

PS: Great to see you're such an opera aficionado, Tenebrae!

Thank you for your stories, Jeff! The Jim Rose Circus Sideshow one was pretty insane haha.

I think my older sister brought me to a Casualties show as a kid. Someone let me borrow their punk rock patched jean jacket for the night.

My first real concert was The Donnas. I fell in love with their guitarist.

Paramore - Haley Williams can sing just as well live as she does on their albums

The Matches - A favorite smallish band I enjoyed in high school. Got in a fight, but won.

Sir Paul McCartney
- No one holds a candle to the level of performance this guy gave. 3 hours, multiple encores, stories about Jimi Hendrix needing Eric Clapton to tune his guitar for him one night. Jumping from the bass to the piano to the guitar, in a 3 piece suit, in humid 96 degree weather. It didn't even look like the man sweats.

The Beach Boys - I dunno what's left of them, but it's sad

The Temptations - Nice to hear the hits live, but they aint nuthin without Jimmy Ruffin.

You got in a fight? Tell us more. :)

I'd love to see Sir Paul but my pocketbook would not love for me to see Sir Paul. If they had reasonable tickets or I had a benefactor...

My friends and I had waited through all the headlining bands so we could make it to a good spot by the front of the stage. It's kind of an unwritten code of concert conduct that you don't just show up at the end and try to weasel your way in front of everyone who waited for their spot. This person had me by at least 100 pounds and a good 3-4 inches of height. Her and her smaller, but still sizeable friend, decided to walk around the side edge of the crowd and then cut right in front of me. This was puzzling because this big bitch could see clear to Ohio from where she was standing probably. Some pushing ensued and she grabbed me by the back of the neck and held me down on the floor. It didn't hurt, but I was nervous about being stampeded. Luckily, another unwritten rule of concerts is that if someone falls, no matter if you know them or not, you help them up so they don't get trampled. When I stood up with the help of some kind strangers, she punched me in the face. I noticed very quickly that her punch didn't hurt due to the fact we were all so tightly crowded; she had no momentum to swing. This gave me the idea to dome-check her with my elbow about 5 times. We both got a talking to from security, but the crowd had my back so I was allowed to stay and Paulina Bunyon had to go. That said, I definitely went out the back way when the concert was over because, on level playing ground, I would need Thor's hammer or something to go against that monster and I was pretty sure she was waiting outside for me. Ultimately, was merely quick thinking that helped me in that scenario

I'm not going to lie, the Paul McCartney tickets were expensive, even for the nosebleed section. That said, even the nosebleed section seats were worth it. Maybe I wasn't right on the lawn in front of him, but it was still a night I'll never forget and a memory I'll always cherish.

My concert bucket list also contains Bob Dylan (though might be crossing him off due to them vocals -woof-) and Stevie Wonder. Fleetwood Mac was on there too, but not sure how their performances are now without Lindsay, and possibly other in-fighting going on behind the scenes.

That was a great story. Now anytime you like, you can say, "I wonder what Paulina Bunyan is doing right now? Not seeing that band, that's for sure. Buahahaha."

I feel the same way about the Billy Joel show I saw. Tickets weren't so cheap, but it was a great night. A great crowd experience with sing-a-longs and everything, and some good stories as well.

Fleetwood Mac - those guys have to have been fighting with each other off and on for like 50 years. I don't know that I'd have the energy to fight someone that long. Still, they are good performers. I saw Lindsay Buckingham in Vegas at the Hard Rock cafe. It was loud as hell, but it was a great show.

That's so cool! I'm not the biggest Billy Joel fan, but if someone offered me a ticket, I'd go and I'd enjoy it. He's got some great hits. Nice you got to have that experience! Im happy to hear Lindsay puts on a good show. Might catch him if he's in town.

Whenever I tell that fight story, I say I slayed a dragon lmfaoooo

Oh, just real quick - big thanks to Cinderrrr because this is an awesome thread idea. Thank you for starting it <3

I have never attended a large live concert, but in 1972 I attended a live on-campus performance by Chuck Berry. The two songs that I remember were Maybeline and his then new cover of My Ding-a-Ling.

Chuck Berry - that's another one I'd love to see. I bet that was a fun show. He is/was a charming performer.

My list. I'm probably forgetting a few, will add those later.

Kansas.
Chicago.

Loved this story :goodjob: And the way you're telling it makes it even better. The "tactical" way (for lack of a better word) in which you think once again proves that brains, while not winning a fight on their own, often give you the edge that you need over those who don't have them. And that nickname "Paulina Bunyon" lol :blaugh: Dragons are beautiful creatures though; I'd say it's an Ogre you fought with, but I'm nitpicking ;)

Besides this, good idea to mention your "bucket list". Mine definitely includes Bruce Springsteen, Bad Religion and Ted Nugent. I've never seen any of them live, but I'd love to

My list isn't extensive but memorable none the less:

Cheap Trick
Def Leppard
Foreigner
Beach Boys
Chicago
Little Texas
Diamond Rio (3 times)
Heart

The most memorable had to be Heart, Bad Animals tour in 1988. Anyway, the local DJ gets out on stage and talks up the opening act as an up and coming singer/songwriter, would you please give a warm welcome to . . .wait for it. . .MR. MICHAEL BOLTON, hair and all. Don't remember any of the songs he played, but it was a good year or two before he became big!

Barbershopman

Thank you for the kind words! It's amazing how adrenaline can work for a person, huh? Ogress it is, then! lol

Bruce Springsteen is a good pick. He's not my favorite artist, but I'd bet my bottom dollar he puts on one hell of a live performance.
