Sisters 10, 12 Arrested for Abducting 1-Year-Old Neighbor for Ransom

I forgot how stupid children can be.

They appear on television so often that their faces are as familiar to the public as presidents and movie stars. They are the Dallas Cowboys, America's Team.

    Children are Stupid?

Would this be in comparison to the estimated thousands of adults who engage in kidnappings every year?

One assumes that a 10-year-old and an 11-year-old did not conceive of the idea of ransom themselves, either, but presumably got it from either (A) a news story, or (B) one of the many books or movies, created by adults, that make such things out to be scary-yet-exciting in much the same vein as a ride on a roller coaster... especially in the eyes of a child.

I'm not saying they weren't wrong to do this. I just don't think they're nearly as bad as a couple of adults doing the same thing, which is far more common.

Kidnapping for ransom is pretty unusal acording to the F.B.I. They estimate 200-300 cases a year on average.

The U.S. Justice Dept. estimates 114,600 non-family attempts each year, with between 3,200 to 4,600 being successful. Also they report 24% are stranger kidnappings,49% are family issues such as divorce and 27% aquaintence kidnappings.

What these kids did was wrong, but i'm not sure locking them up until they are 18 is the answer.
