Quite a 'sexually explicit' question this, but I thought I'd ask...
Ok, I've been a male for 19 years now, and have been, hmmmm, 'sexually active and interested' for just under 10 of those, I'd say. But what I discovered a long time back was that after masturbating, I become far far less horny for about an hour, and then gradually became relatively attracted to things again (for eg, if I watch a tickle vid then 'jerk off', it will be about half an hour until the same tickling video would turn me on).
However, I've never known the answer to why this is the case, so if someone would care to give me a scientific explanation, or just an explanation, of why this happens, it would make years of mystery on the subject fade away!
PS Lads - you do experience this too, right?
PPS - I thought this was the most sensible forum to post this question on, as I can't see a 'sex questions for idiots' side (just thought I'd throw him in for the sake of it).

There's a theory that your life energy is contained in your semen, and when you expel it you become drained for that reason. I'm not sure if I believe that or not, but if I happen to go a couple of days without masturbating, I notice my energy level does seem to feel higher.

What he said.
Strangely enough, when I'm running around, visiting people, running errands, getting work done (the holidays are a perfect example of this), there's no "me" time, but I have all sorts of energy.
Conversely, when I have too much time on my hands, I'm tired and/or listless. Idle hands are the devils playthings! LOL

The time after an orgasm in which a male is unable to (or finds it difficult to) achieve arousal again is called the Refractory Period.

An increased infusion of the hormone oxytocin during ejaculation is believed to be chiefly responsible for the refractory period and the amount by which oxytocin is increased may affect the length of each refractory period.
Another chemical which is considered to be responsible for this effect is prolactin, which represses dopamine, which is responsible for sexual arousal.
18-year-old males have a refractory period of about 15 minutes, while those in their 70s take about 20 hours, with the average for all men being about a half-hour.
Hope that helps.

Ah, yes, I do remember what it was like to be 18.
At 58, my refractory period is about 2 or 3 hours. Hope that's not TMI.

It's like flushing a household toilet. It takes time for the tank to refill.
When it's the middle of the day and you've got things to do and people to see, you're probably best off not masturbating if you don't really need to.

Some rare female input on this...
Quite different since I am with someone who seriously praticed yoga (tantra/bakhti) for a decade. The kind who preserved his "vital seeds" during teenage years...
Currently, his refractory period is just minutes. He can get turned on again and undergo the phase for 3 times before feeling the need to rest.

Sounds like the same reason why guys fall asleep straight after performing their duties.

Interesting...I believe one's refractory period has a lot to do with health. I've managed to get my refractory period down to a few minutes before, though it's not always the case.
