Sorry I haven't made all the way through all the 8 pages, but I'm going to write my opinion on tips anyway. First of all, I should tell you that I almost never tip waiters. It however might not exactly be for the reasons you think. I respect that job and some waiters I know are very nice people, however I do not pay tips precisely because of their low wages. A tip is supposed to be a reward for doing a good job and NOT a necessity for survival. We've come to the point where tipping has become so common, that the employers pretty much benefit from it by decreasing waiter's salary. The idea behind it being that if the employee gets extra money, why pay him "that much".
I find that this kind of system very debasing for the waiters: they're regular employes of the restaurant and they should be treated with respect by their employers, not to be put at the mercy of the customers and having them to hope for a tip, that some asshole (like me
) won't give to them. In my opinion that kind of system is completely wrong and I don't want to even more support it by tipping the waiters even though I have absolutely nothing against them. I know I am not exactly helping their situation at the given moment, but I can't help but feel that helping that kind of unjust system is wrong, that's why I do it extremely rarely.
I'd be interested in hearing what the waiters have to say in that matter.
