Consider this a friendly warning for OktoberFetish. There is a minority people that walk among us. But they are not us. They are not another race. They are another species. Our dark cousins; a secretive parallel evolutionary branch of humanity. But there is no humanity about them. Shadow people that blend into our society and they will not let you notice them... unless they want you to. They are few, and that is good. For they are otherworldly wicked. Made of harder stuff than we are. And they are smarter than we are. They always have been. Your odds of directly encountering them are slim. And you odds of surviving such an an encounter are slimmer still.
So be warned. When out and about this Halloween, mixing it up at parties, take note. That odd person, half in and half out of the shadows, smiling feral at you from across the room. Staring with eyes that are not quite right. You just may be already doomed. They are smarter than you are. The old world had a weak and dismissive name for these strange folk; they called them Ghouls. But over time we have written them off as superstitious fluff.
