I cannot believe she lost that fight, and got knocked out cold in the process - she was un-fucking-conscious.

That girl Holly Holm (Is it a rule in UFC that their names have to alliterate?) was way tougher than I gave her credit for being, even though she's a world champion too, and she was obviously incredibly prepared for Rousey's moves. I thought it was going to be over when Ronda got her on the ground the first time, and it's really to Holm's credit that she was able to patiently and methodically work her way free from that.

To me, Ronda looked a split-second behind everything right out of the gate, like she was stuck in her head instead of being in the moment of the fight. I mean, she'd have clobbered me if I somehow ended up in that ring, but compared to herself when she's firing on all cylinders she seemed slowish and not-quite committed to the fight.

That was some shit, wasn't it? I think Rousey might have believed her own hype, that she was completely unbeatable (hell, I thought Rousey was going to destroy her) and tried to take the fight to Holm as a puncher, to prove she could beat Holm at her own game. It's gotta be tough, being the "unbeatable" champ; if you lose, you're toppled, and it's big news: "Is her reign over forever?", etc. If you beat an opponent: "Big Deal, they lost to Ronda Rousey".

She'll be back on top soon, I think. UFC is a pretty volatile environment.
I hate to dash the hopes of some around here, but she won't be doing tickle porn any time soon.

The rematch will be awesome. And I would bet on Rousey winning it.

A commentator somewhere pointed out that one of things that refined Holm into the fighter that she is was a brutal defeat that she took earlier in her career. I think this is going to be something that Rousey never forgets, and forges her into a far better fighter. She may have started to think she she couldn't lose, and now she knows that she can.

That's my read on it too, she may have bought into her own hype, and now that she's had a taste of how it feels to lose, she'll come back stronger than ever.

She might have also put too much time into her press appearances and magazine shoots, and I'd bet that she'll never be willing to have her training take second place to anything ever again if that was the case.
 
I feel like I was one of the very few who actually didn't feel like this fight would result in another squash. Because, let's face it, although Rousey is one of the greatest, in this whole hype of her invincibility, one forgot that Holm is a very skilled competitor as well. And she definitely knew how to tackle Ronda.
I've said it as soon as the fight was announced that Holm would be most likely to beat Ronda and I'm not really surprised. Rousey happened to fight opponents who just matched her style, hence all those quick wins. And Holm was something new for her, something the now-former champ wasn't prepared for and it was painfully visible through the whole fight.
So, kudos to Holly Holm. She probably won't stay a champion long, but I'm so happy that Rousey finally got beaten. She deserved it.

Did you think you had an argument there? Regardless of who won, it was going to be a girl who weighed 135 lbs.
 
Some serious hubris in this fight, trying to trade with a boxer the caliber of Holm. She ended up chasing her around the ring eating right hooks and straight lefts all night. Fighting a southpaw is a different situation in the first place, but to try to stand up against one of the best female boxers in the history of the sport (not an exaggeration).....she needs to hit the "Three R's" hard. Rest...Re-evaluate...Regain.
 
Aw, I was hoping maybe she'd retire and do a tickle tapout with Tickle Abuse.

The rematch would pay huge money, Dana can say what he wants but drama sells tickets, and a vengeful Ronda vs Holly would be big bucks.
