Some 60s sounds

Brook Benton & Dinah Washington - "Baby (You've Got What It Takes)" (1960)

wow, Chicago, those are two of my all-time favorite songs right above:...."Baby, You Got What It Takes", and "Guinevere" (which was actually released in 1969, not 1968). Which means you provided an object lesson in the difference between 1960 and 1969! The scope of the whole decade, just in two random love songs! Neither song could exist in the other's year! Ha! Anyways, I love Brook Benton! Love Dinah! Love Crosby!

But it's actually George that made me pop in, just to say Happy Birthday. ;)

ah yeah, i read that it was written in 1968. thanks

I only mentioned it because I thought it was neat that you had a song from the beginning of the decade, and one from the end! :)

Anyways, one more time, with feeling: Happy Birthday, George!

The Beatles: It's All Too Much

The originals....I always think of these three (great) records together:

Gloria Jones: Tainted Love

Dee Dee Warwick: You're No Good

Irma Thomas: Time Is On My Side

....although this is kinda the 60s song that fits the mood (for me) lately

Crosby, Stills And Nash: Wooden Ships

Ha! Handy to keep in mind!

The Air: The Mothers Of Invention

Dog Breath; In The Year Of The Plague

(and might as well include the beautiful "Dog Breath Variations" ;)

The definitive version of "Cantaloupe Island" (and recorded in the 60s), un clásico

Pucho & The Latin Soul Brothers: Cantaloupe island

How dare you.

(just a joke, just kidding!)

Canned Heat - "Goin Up The Country" (1968)

the video is a bunch of clips from Woodstock (1969). Pretty cool stuff :)

PS. Is that a flute in the intro or some other instrument? Tryna figure it out :)

It's a flute.

That clip is actually from the movie "Woodstock" (as opposed to someone on Youtube making a compilation of clips from the festival). A young Martin Scorsese was one of the cameramen, and helped edit the movie along with his soon-to-be lifelong editor Thelma Shoonmaker (she's edited all of his movies, right up to the present day), and the amazing Walter Murch who did the incredible sound designs for movies like "American Graffiti", "The Godfather" and "The Conversation" (which he also edited). So "Woodstock" (the movie) gave the start to three people who ended up totally changing the game in movies.

Here's all three, with director Michael Wadleigh:

Not a big Canned Heat fan, but this one is obviously fantastic.
