TMF Diet & Exercise Club Thread

Seems like every time i lose 5 lbs i gain it back. Le sigh. I fell off the yoga wagon but on the plus side I quit smoking cigarettes 2 weeks ago today XD.

Congratulations! How's that been going?

:) :)

That's awesome Chicago!!! You won't believe this but I quit YESTERDAY!! I had Dental surgery and couldn't smoke for 24 hours. So I figured it was a prime time to quit. LONG overdue for me. My first night on the nicotine patches wasn't so great combined with all the medication I'm on. . Nightmare city. But talk about lucid dreaming overall. I hope I have fun, sexy tickle dreams out of this over the next few weeks. :)

I too gained some weight back. Theres been so much going on since the holidays including a tramatic Presidency. :idontwann But as soon as I'm healing I'm so ready to hit it again. I just bought a few sexy dresses a few weeks ago amd I'm so I'm dying to wear them. :)

Thanks doll! If you have a smartphone you can download this app SmokeFree and its helping me a lot

Kudos to you's that have gone cold turkey on some things. (the John Lennon song chimes in....) May you beat the devil(s) working on you now. And may I beat those working on me (yes, I have a few).

It sucks falling off the exercise wagon, but only one thing to do, right? Climb back on. Nice work quitting the cigarettes, keep it up! Yeah, I'll probably gain most or all of the weight back eventually, but I'm hoping to be svelte through May at least.

I hope your surgery went ok Doll! Often in my life, something or other has happened that helped me get going on breaking bad habits. A head start if you will. I hope you're able to stick it out! :)

I've heard that nicotine patches give crazy lucid dreams. It kinda makes me want to try them lol. But since tobacco is a vice that I've fortunately never struggled with, I don't want to risk it.

So far so good. Its been pretty rough healing wise so because of that quitting has been going quite well. But today I finally feel pretty good. :)

The lucid dreams... 2 Nights of nightmares. Now last night was pretty cool. I was running a business of making Heavy Metal jean jackets. :) And then I was at this awesome porn warehouse where I found a book with tickling. :) Finally it makes an appearance! yay!! :). Honestly I wish I could do nicotine patches just for the dreaming every once in awhile. Everything becomes quite real. Yeah the nightmares suck but the good ones make everything worth it. But no, no one should pick these up if you're not already a smoker. I don't think it would be very nice to one's heart.

Well I guess having a rough go recovering from surgery has a slight silver lining, so at least you can look at the bright side. I sure hope you heal quickly and maintain your progress. I hadn't thought about the heart aspect, so yeah, I don't think I'll mess around with nicotine patches lol. Even just taking a pull off of someone's cigarette makes me a little dizzy, so I might die in my sleep!

I've decided to take a little time off of booze, so after tomorrow that will be one week. Another change I've made is I started eating plain yogurt instead of the fruit on the bottom stuff. It reduces sugar from 15-16 g per serving to 6 g. Reducing my sugar intake has become one of new dietary focuses. I had to choke it down the first few times, but now that I'm used to it, I don't even mind. Starting to build some serious momentum. High school weight, here I come!

That's great for the short term. But I encourage you to start -when you feel like it- start exploring what you can do with real fruit. I've done the yogurt train for about a year. And I did enjoy it! Plain yogurt though was TOO plain and I never could stomach it. And yogurt I ended up finding out wasn't satisfying. After about a year- I was following it up with something else to eat. And I ate every yogurt out there. Nothing yogurt wise really did it for me. (Except for the chocolate and lime ones- now THOSE truly help with chocolate/sugar cravings!!!) It ultimately wasn't the taste- it was the feel of the weight in my stomach.

Don't turn your taste buds against you. If you are already finding it hard to eat something... pretty soon you WILL be saying to yourself "I can't take this anymore. F it!". It will discourage you from continuing to eat it. And remain healthy. This is a life long journey. A marathon... not a sprint. So it behooves you to truly find the foods you can enjoy in moderation. And learning to blend and cook is truly an adventure all on its own.

For a couple of months I was eating these huge crackers- 15 cal a cracker. O Maloney those were awful. I ended up drenching them in salt to get through it. After 2 months I put the kabosh on it.

To learn healthy receipes- whether its fruit shakes- or yummy salads- or interesting snacks/ dinners. Go to youtube and explore. It will keep your mind from going insane. And your stomach from growling. We need satisfaction. It's part of human nature.

For me, not eating sweets isn't really a big deal. The less I eat of sugary things, the less I crave them. (You might crave the sugary stuff more than I do because of your sweet disposition ;)) But I have been eating fruit (which is something I haven't done in any appreciable amount in years). Mostly apples, bananas and grapefruit. I actually made yogurt last night and it was kind of fun. But I agree with what you're saying, one can't be good diet wise all the time. Once I hit my target weight, I'll be a lot more willing to have "bad" eating days.

Yes of course we can eat bad things once in awhile.

But... You want to take yourself on an adventure away from processed food land as much as humanly possible. Learning to cook with raw ingredients. Using spices. Working with broths and making your own sauces. I myself LOVE DORITOS. Do I let myself keep them in the house. No. Do I buy a bag every single holiday and eat the whole thing in one sitting. YES. I COULD keep a bag around and just eat a handful every day... No... can't do it. I always demolish Doritos. And there's NOTHING healthy about Doritos.

I will gain a pound or two every single holiday. (Thanks to my bf's family mostly- crying out loud they cook for Godzilla I think sometimes.) Aside from holidays I stopped eating Fast Food. Most fast food restaurants are simply AWFUL for your health. Since all of this began- on a couple of diff occassions I went to Wendy's and McDonald's and ate. I was very sick both times. VERY. Now I had grown up on eating at both places all the way till I was 30 with no issues.

My Boyfriend when HE eats a Dorito. Sick. Same with Fast Food.

So besides calorie counting which is also great to do for the first couple of years while you're learning. (Once I look at the cals I just do a round up figure/ guesstimate in my head after each meal.) it's really about understanding the ingredients. Pretty soon you'll be shopping at Asian/ Mexican etc supermarkets, and sale shopping like the rest of us. It becomes the natural course to eating well. You want to explore the world through your tounge. And its amazing.

P.s Try throwing some of that fruit in your yogurt. :) And dessert yogurts are just sweet enough thats its tasty but it doesn't knock you over the head like a candy bar would. :)

Officially lost 10 pounds as of today, halfway to my target weight of 185. I've been eating 2 hard boiled eggs and a cup of plain yogurt for breakfast, a nice handful of pistachios, an apple, a beef stick and a string cheese for lunch and a banana more pistachios, and another cheese stick for a late day snack. If I get hungry in between those meals it's a grapefruit or another beef stick or more cheese. Post workout it's some amino acid chewables and half a can of tuna. Most nights I'll have some cheese and crackers with olives as a treat. That's my favorite current indulgence. I've also cut way back on alcohol and when I do drink, it's vodka and club soda. Haven't smoked the wacky tobaccy in 3 weeks, but that's because I'm trying to get a new job. My blood pressure has gone way down too, feeling really motivated to keep it going.

I think the program is going well because I haven't lost any strength (as measured by bench press reps at 185 pounds, currently 6 reps, same as before I started) These are the first pics of me that I've ever posted on TMF, so please be gentle.

WOW!!! You look WONDERFUL!!!!! :yayzorz:

You have everything under control. I love it!!! GREAT JOB!!!!

I've changed my meal plan again; birdseye steamed vegetables, a basic protein (chicken, beef, whatever). Brown in a pressure cooker, add vegetables, done. So far so good.

Sensual, you're SUCH a tease, you know?!!! Personally, I don't know why you want to lose more weight, but if you have health complications or are self-conscious or other stuff or whatever, you do you, okay? (And I have to say, sucking in or not... WOWZAH! :bwahaha:)

Doll, I have a slew of health problems, and due to sleeping complication crap, I don't end up eating a lot aside from cereal (though I'm still about 140lbs. Ultimate goal: 130-135lbs. 125lbs was the weight o was in the hospital, so no 2 showing on the scale). Just started eating literal handfuls of vitamins a new doctor recommended (the rare light in an abyss) and they seem to be helping. Weather's getting warmer, so if my head can survive the rising temperature changes, I always do better then.
Now getting to the point, what meal replacement drinks would you recommend are best? I live in Canada (and have become a life-long student, so relating money issues) so can't get American, if they aren't in Canada, too. 'Just' started taking the drinks as I was waking up feeling physically nauseous and right know why until my mother mentioned my "cereal-only" diet as a likely culprit. I've NEVER been able to get enough protein (and with my stomach being super finnicky now, I'm not sure what's better than meat, as that or dairy can be "too hard" for my stomach to handle), so tend to focus on that for supplements/drinks.

What are the best things to focus on, if someone doesn't get a lot of calories, but is relatively easy to digest? Is protein the best? Carbs? Vitamin B (B12)?

I'm currently taking: 5000 UI vitamin D, 3000UI(? mg?) omega-3 fish oil capsules, vitamin B complex, Iron capsule (whatever's recommended on the bottle), DHEA capsule, and selenium through Brazil nuts so far - the doctor's adding more every time I go to see him - so think I'm good on at least those vitamins, if they have any effect on fatigue/energy.

Thanks for your help in advance!

All the best, everyone! You're doing AWESOME! :D

P.S. I am being bad and having a can of Coke almost daily, but I rationalize it away with needing more calories and the caffeine from it seems to help my frequent headaches as the main reason (if I could get 12 capsules of caffeine for three Canadian dollars, I'd switch; last time I used my brain, pills don't seem to be that cheap though, so sugar and related crap wins out). When I was being super healthy, I could only stand a sip or two as it was SO SWEET! But winter's been a doozy for me, and back on the unhealthy headache-aid (yes, it DOES help or at least not make it worse, and no, I don't think I'm addicted to them so they're giving me rebound/withdrawal headaches from consuming the sugar).
When I'm feeling better I'll likely stop drinking them, but I usually drink at LEAST two litres of water a day (more if I'm active and exercising), period.

Is that just your dinner or the only thing your eating for the day? It sounds great for dinner!

Sometimes I think about trying brown rice again. But it's going to take some spices to liven it up for me. At least some garlic, onion, s&p. Maybe I'll grab some this weekend and play around with it.

Could you go into your health problems? Because I want to make sure I am not at odds with your Doctors advice. Also: what is your height? How much water are you drinking? What cereal brands are you eating. And about how much?

I have to tell you I have a strong idea of what you might be suffering from. So... I hope you share what is going on with me here or in private. Because without knowing what is going on... I won't be able to help you. I may not be able to help you anyway with the information you give me. But... I can put things in a certain perspective that might help. That much I can do.

if I do it for dinner it generally makes lunch the next day too. I wasn't sure if I'd like it but it's one way to get somewhat regulated

True. But don't forget to enjoy a piece or 2 of various fruit and some raw vegetables too. Handful of nuts... a piece of fish once a week or every couple of weeks.

Thank you for the kind words Sadie. Sometimes I think I have some mild body image issues, but I guess most people probably do to some degree. I promise you, I'm not a tease, more like a tickle slut haha. If you ever come to Wisconsin, I'll prove it ;) Thankfully I don't have health complications, it's more to improve athletic performance. I turn 40 this year and I have 2 kinda lofty goals.

My personal philosophy has always been, err on the side of protein. If nausea is a problem, I would try eating small portions more frequently, that may help. If budget is a big issue, eggs are high in protein, generally regarded as easy to digest and cheap. Scrambled eggs with whatever veggies and or meats you like is a good start. I tend to buy protein powder that's on clearance because it's expired. The stuff is good way past it's expiration date (I'm talking about dry powder, not the pre mixed ones). I work in the pharmaceutical industry and I know a thing or two about stability studies and how expiration dates work. Nuts are a good source of protein as well, I prefer pistachios, but they can be a bit pricey (and I keep breaking my thumbnails cracking them  ) A good multivitamin is all most people need and the best source of vitamin D is sunlight. I hope you feel better and attain your goals!
