Hrm, not 100% here, but I believe a gherkin a certain type of cucumber that is small even when it reaches maturity.

Baby Wholes at least imply an early harvest during a cucumber's early and impressionable years.

I believed that John F. Kennedy was a good man well into my 20's when there was ample evidence to the contrary available.
