Hey all,

So I'm a senior about to graduate college with my UG degree and I'm currently in a Sociology of Sexuality class. It's an amazingly interesting class, one of my favorites I have ever taken in college.

Anyway, so getting to the good part-- we have recently started talking about pornograpy in class as this week's topic. Most of the young adults in my class have very limited ideas about what kinds of porn are out there.
Our professor had us write on the board the different types of porn we know about. I made quite the list as I'm a kinkster. But, I didn't write tickling as I think it's less socially acceptable and I'm awkward lol

After going over the kinds of porn that we wrote on the board, our really beautiful female professor mentioned that she just recently saw a documentary on HBO about tickling. She then went on to explain how tickling is a fetish and for some people it really turns them on, but it doesn't necessarily have to be sexual.

The class was shocked naturally. Almost everyone had confused, turned off, or intrigued looks on their faces. My classmates went on to talk about how in the world could tickling possibly be a fetish or a turn on?!

I felt my heart skip like 10 beats as my toes curled in my shoes and I tried to act as cool and calm as possible. I blushed, hard. Stared down at my notes--trying to forget that I AM a tickle fetishist who is registered for NEST this year. I got major goosebumps and...something else, arousal.

Our professor then went on to talk about how just like leather conventions, they also have a tickling convention. That it's a real thing. I just thought, "oh my god...please change the topic!"

Our professor went on a bit more talking about the bondage and kink and how it is sometimes used in tickling.

I did also email her after class to ask her about that HBO documentary and if I could view it out of interest.

Crazy, right?! Just thought I'd share that my tickle friends! Any and all comments would be appreciated.
 
I don't know, maybe I am misjudging what goes on in the minds of my fellow human beings, because I have always felt that there is a lot more tickling happening out there than we sometimes assume and that it is a pretty natural and human behaviour...yet the reaction of your classmates that you describe sounds as if they were bemused and surprised. But I wonder what some of them may have been thinking and feeling while being careful to hide it. I know that if I had been in that class and the subject had come up like that, no one would have been able to guess from my deliberately inscrutable demeanor that the subject meant what it does for me...because we mostly know better than to reveal it to just anyone like that, don't we?

If they really were all as clueless about the concept as you suggest, then I am even more different from other people than I thought, because I just can't understand how more people can't see the OBVIOUS erotic potential of tickling, especially when someone has pointed it out to them!
 
How on earth did you manage to walk out of that class?? I would've felt antsy as hell trying to keep my cool if the subject ever came up in class to this extent back in school or uni... :shock: :gonao:

You should definitely send this beautiful female professor the link to TMF anonymously and bring her here :) She should know about tickling from here not from some HBO documentaries made by unenlightened journalists.

Hahahaha, her name is Sara and she's only 33. Dresses super cute and has us call her by her first name. Very relatable. This is my 3rd class with her.
 
You would be surprised what people my age are shocked about sex and fetishes. Which I always find interesting and confusing just how much people don't know.

It's awesome though that your going back to school! And it sounds like you and the professor are the only two smart ones in the class who know about tickling ;) Bet you get an "A+" in that course!

The way I see it, this is an excellent "live" experiment in dropping a bomb on the vanilla world ;) It is funny to see those people who study sexuality (who above all should be quite accustomed to all kinds of stuff) getting puzzled and shaking their head in disbelief over something as inoffensive as tickling. I mean, it is far from being the weirdest fetish out there. And interestingly enough, you just got to witness the impact in the vanilla world of the famous HBO mockumentary, such as the interest it triggered among certain professions, university professors included.

Maybe it is time I convince my colleagues to write papers about us. I could make China the most advanced nation in the study of tickling, lol :p

I feel like I should second Tenebrae's assessment that it is pretty surprising that people were so surprised by this. As far as fetishes go, tickling is pretty tame. And it can incorporate so many elements of other kinks, like bondage, power play, nudity etc. I have to imagine that during a comprehensive study of fetishism, tickling is by no means the weirdest thing that could come up. Hell, it is not even the weirdest thing I like....but that is a another topic.

It is also not beyond the realm of possibility that other people in the class were having the same secret thoughts you were having, either during the tickling discussion or when other fetishes were brought up.

I'd like to think so. But on the other hand we are so rare... Even among the BDSM scene (in which you'd think there is a high probability to find ticklers), our fantasy is seldom present. So in a classroom, chances are even slimmer.

Ever since I read Sara's message, I keep thinking about what I would have done in her (pretty) shoes. Would I have gone like "Oh yeah I am actually quite familiar with tickling; I even have some vids on my phone here", or would I have kept silent? I would not have blushed or felt uncomfortable I think, but would I have kept a low profile? I really wonder. It is rather a unique experience she had.

You are welcome! As I just wrote above to Alliekat, this was a rather unique experience! One that most of us will never get a chance to taste for ourselves actually. The combination of the classroom setting, the subject evoked, the sexy teacher and the awkwardness makes for a rather special cocktail! I am really glad you decided to share it with us; it is definitely, as someone wrote just now, delightful food for thought :bubble:
