Jokes never die, they just change to new versions.

This appeared in last night's collection of jokes by Low Roads:

Three college girls are cutting across campus late one night, when they notice a guy passed out in the dark.

"It isn't Jeff," says the redhead, feeling his face. "My boyfriend has a longer nose,"

"It isn't Tom," says the brunette, feeling his hand. "My boyfriend has a thicker thumb.

The blonde feels his crotch.

"This guy doesn't even go to our school!"

Back in about 1963, I heard the following earlier version:

A college student from New York University is spending the summer on a kibbutz in Israel. He is somewhat uncomfortable about the communal showers there, with just a canvas sheet separating the men's side from the women's side, so he takes his showers early in the morning when it seems to be empty.

At 4am one day, he is showering alone in the men's side. Three women enter the shower and are surprised to hear the sound of somebody showering so early on the men's side. There is a small hole in the canvas at waist level and one woman leans down and looks through it, seeing only the thighs and groin of the student.

"It's not my husband," she says.

The second woman bends down and looks. "You're right," she says. "It's not your husband and it's not my husband either."

The third woman bends down and looks. She says, "It's not any of the men who live on this kibbutz. It must be the visiting student from NYU."

Ha ha! Fascinating historical perspective! You're right, jokes are incredibly malleable. They change (sometimes subtly, sometimes radically) with every iteration. All tellers make the humor their own!

Some jokes can be passed to a new generation.
