Hello all,

I've been mulling over something I wanted to run by my fans/customers and others on the forum and see what the sentiment was. Traditionally I've been offering full HD (.mp4) clips along with feet and upper only clips. I've also been offering SD versions (.wmv) of the full clip. The feet/upper only clips have been in SD. This was done mainly to accommodate those with older computers or slower internet connections. However, that process was put in place several years ago and we've had a lot of advances in technology since then.

Here's what I'm thinking: Still offer the full HD version of the clip but discontinue the SD version of the clip all together. Instead, I'm thinking of replacing that with a mobile friendly version for those that wish to watch their media on cell phones. I'm also thinking of making the sub-clips full HD instead of SD.

What are your thoughts? What would you like to see made available?

That makes me wonder how many people watch these videos on their cell phones and tablets. It seems like an easy way to out yourself to friends, family and co-workers. I wouldn't watch these videos in public, at work, in transit somewhere or around other people. However, if you're at a hotel room, doing airbnb, or whatever ..and you can keep other people from using your equipment, I could see how a mobile version would be useful. A lot of people these days don't travel with laptops anymore; they primarily use their cell phones and tablets. I don't like tablets at all; I always travel with a laptop.

I know this can be considered anecdotal; I've worked tech support with Comcast, Charter, WildBlue/Exede, and Apple; 80% of our customers call in with questions and issues about their cell phones and tablets. And at least 50% of those people report that they hardly ever use their laptops and computers anymore.

Me and you haven't always agreed with each other on much of anything, but I have bought several of your videos; as a customer of your work, I'd prefer SD and HD versions. Or you could offer SD, HD and Mobile..

I'd imagine it's a bit easier to keep this stuff private if you only store it on your computer or laptops. Personally, I don't let anybody else use my computers at all.

That's just my two cents.

Additionally, how much would you charge for the mobile versions?

That's the thing, I'm curious to see how many out there are actually watching this media on cell phones these days or would like to. I'm happy to start making a version optimized for it if there is a demand for it. The cost would be comparable to the other versions but less than HD.

I don't watch videos on my cell phone. Not only because of the risks weezl mentioned, but also because I prefer watching them on a bigger screen than that.

As far as formats, I'd have no problem with HD on both the full and the sub clips.

Personally, I'm intrigued by the idea of making 4k videos and videos designed for VR headsets.

Im sure 4K videos would be close to double the file size of HD. Curious what others feel about these various formats and the tradeoffs of file size, download time and video quality.

I will say that the consumer has the most freedom when provided the most choices available.

I use mobile devices for these videos almost exclusively.

I like this guy. He's basically like, I watch tickle porn, fuck you if you have a problem with it. No fucks given.

Any other feedback regarding media formats? I'm strongly considering retiring the SD formats for the sub-clips and making those HD also and adding a mobile-friendly version.

I'm not a customer, but as another vendor who's been offering standard (640x480), "iPad-friendly" .mp4 files (also at 640x480) and HD (1080p), this has been my experience.

Nobody buys the iPad stuff except on the rarest of occasions. The bulk of sales come from HD and occasionally standard. Honestly, you could probably just offer HD and nobody would care. But if you were going to offer mobile, then you'd probably see some movement. I don't know how you do your transcoding, but I do a single high-quality render and then use a separate app to convert it to the lower-res formats, so two or (or even five) extra renders is no big deal.

So yeah, I think HD and mobile would be ideal. A lot of folks surf C4S on their iPads, at least according to some of the support requests I've seen.

Thanks for the insight Sole - much appreciated. Seems like HD bears the most fruit fo you over anything else.

Appreciate all the feedback guys. Unless anyone else feels different or wants to chime in I feel I have enough insight to make an informed decision.

Another question for the group - what's the feeling on full 4K videos vs the current full HD videos? Would you want to have that media type available? Please note that the file sizes would likely be in the 1GB - 2.5GB range for such a video w/the usual length I make. Curious how the community feels about that and whether or not there's enough demand to justify upgrading equipment to provide it.

I personally prefer HD (1080) but that's just me. You might wanna see if you can get a hold of Tommy from Tickle Abuse. The Tickle Abuse site offers 640, 1280 and 1920 for each video whereas The Hard Limit only offers 1920X1080. Obviously both stores are doing well but he may be able to tell you if there's a difference in sales between the 2 stores and whether having only one format in one and multiple formats in another could account for that difference.

I'd rather have high bitrate 1080p or 1080p60 than poorly compressed 4K. 4K is excessive anyway except on a really big screen or in a VR headset. If I were making clips, I would probably shoot in 4K if I had the equipment and save that on private storage, but offer 1080p for sale.

Not going to happen. This guy has repeatedly stated that he has zero respect for Tommy.

4K could be nice on a big TV screeen but on the other hand it would consume too much HD space and with your slow upstream it would take ages to download these formats. Also there is no advantage on a normal PC screen or any other Non-4K-device. But as long as it is just another option I'm up for it.

1080p and maybe 720p are the only useful formats. I don't know why anyone would like to have a lower resolution. Even my smartphone can play FUll HD videos.

But what I would really like to see is not paying for a specific format but paying for a (full) video and then be able to download all formats or sub-clips of this video that I want.

I'd prefer VR capable videos with 360 degree view before we start getting 4k videos.

Feather, P_Bustelon and JustForFun,

Thanks for your feedback - it really does help! You bring up a good point about the 4K. I feel the technology is still fairly new and it may take some time for consumer PC's to catch up. Unless it's on an advanced PC or a 4K television screen there really isn't too much benefit. The HD space is another concern too. I think if there becomes more of a demand for it I'll go towards it once it becomes more commonplace on PC displays and TV's, but for now will keep the 1920x1080p I presently use for HD. The new Mobile format I've put out is actually better quality and smaller file format than the previous SD, with a slightly bigger picture, so I think that should appeal to not only Mobile and Tablet users but those who enjoyed SD as well.

I also didn't realize there were any concerns with download speed from my store JustForFun, so I will look into that immediately. For the amount I pay each month it really should be much faster as it's dedicated bandwidth. The hosting company is pretty good about addressing complaints and it may be something as simple as default throttling on their end. Thank you for bringing this to my attention!

A year later (and now using a 4K monitor), I'm thinking 4K or at least 1440p video would be great, and high frame rate would be awesome (48 or 60 FPS).

Now that the 4K is becoming more cost effective and internet bandwidths have increased, this is definitely feasible. However, I'd have to upgrade my camera equipment, likely $1,000.00 or so for good caliber one.
