One thing that springs to mind was a Russell Watson CD - for those who don't know, he is a former dustman/waste disposal operative (no shame in that), who became famous in the UK for a short while after singing Nessun Dorma on some sort of reality TV talent show... the sort of thing that is everywhere at Christmas and make me want to vomit. I think I was bought this after a miscommunication.
However, the worst present I ever had was a pair of socks (plain black, one pair, price label still attached), from an Aunt & Uncle...given that humans frequently joke about giving people socks for Christmas, the staggering lack of awareness on their behalf was baffling, but the interesting thing is that this year, I have actually requested some socks... so I guess it's all about context.
As a 14 year old, why the hell would I want a pair of plain coloured black socks for Christmas. I mean at least get me some novelty socks or something with colour on it...
But, as a 30ish year old, buying socks myself is something I begrudge because it can be surprisingly expensive and isn't really that interesting, so there's no benefit to be had from buying them - but I do like to wear a nice pair of socks these days, much more so than I used to - so it makes sense to top up on these every Christmas when someone else can buy them for me!
