I just saw Star Wars: The Last Jedi in 3D IMAX. It is episode VIII in the chronological arrangement of the eventual nine part series of films.

The big three main characters of the original 1977 Star Wars were Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, and Princess Leia. As you already know, Han Solo dies at the end of episode VII. What made me very sad is that Luke Skywalker dies as the end of episode VIII. That leaves Princess Leia as a widow whose husband and whose brother were both killed by her own son.

The message from the movie makers to me is clear: Time for your generation to die. :grandpa: We are after the admission dollars of the 12 to 25 year old audience.

It felt a lot like a Michael Bay movie. The new ships looked idiotic and their function didn't make any sense (bombs don't fucking fall down in space), the plot was kinda lame with more than a few plot holes, and then of course there's the director killing off Luke without Luke getting a chance to show what he's made of. I was expecting an epic beatdown with Luke telekinetically DESTROYING the First Order's Walkers and forcing Kylo to retreat after WHOOPING his ass.

Instead we get a Force Illusion Luke whose strain to use ultimately kills Luke. Snoke's dying with any explanation into who the fuck he actually was is just downright annoying. Also, Poe's demotion and being treated like a misbehaving child by Leia and that purple haired idiot of a leader just made me mad. Lastly, the one liners, ugh, "I'm Rebel Scum", really Finn? I'm miffed and annoyed at this movie. I did not enjoy it.

Just an enjoyable movie that has set records for attendance.

I enjoyed it, but can see why it annoyed some people..

Leia Poppins scene for example lol

I’m not sure I agree with your assessment. Han Solo died because Harrison Ford wanted him dead, and he’s wanted him dead since Empire Strikes Back. And I have a feeling we haven’t seen the last of Luke, even though he’s dead I think he’ll still be around. I don’t think there’s any message in it. I had some different problems with it (namely the above mentioned Leia Poppins scene) but I thought it was at least better than Force Awakens.

I didn't hate the movie - it was entertaining as a whole. But they killed off everyone I cared about from my childhood. And while Leia "survived" - Carrie Fisher did not. So she will have to be written out/recast/or CGI. I think I'm done. I could care less about what happens to those who remain.

:iagree:
Good point about Carrie Fisher, RIP.
All three of the major heroes of the original film are now gone. :(

I am so embarrased. A fan of all things space, science, physics and I completely forgot about gravity.

I was also disappointed. I felt they were trying to play on the nostalgia feels too much. And the nuVader actions don't make any sense. Like what caused him to defect, the redefect, and then reredefect? It just seemed like the story was garbled up in an attempt to milk the franchise one last time.

Also the rebel ship is under siege, surrounded, being pounded and yet our band of mismatched heroes easily escaped, went on a casino royale trip, instigated a rebellion, and were back in time for dinner.

Yeah, K-Wings would have been a better choice to use:

Fast, maneuverable, well defended, and can punch a hole in Star Destroyers. :D

Unfortunately, whoever directed/produced/wrote the script for this one had no idea about anything Star Wars and also had no idea how gravity works in space.
