Hello, everyone.

I was interested in knowing if anyone else is into the horror genre of movies. As strange as it might sound, I love watching them alone, especially in the middle of the night!
I'm pretty open to exploring them from "A nightmare on elm street" to some of the lesser known ones if anybody has some good reccomendations, no matter how cheesy they might be.

Nope, to me, all horror films are basically one trick ponies. They're designed to get you scared. That's it. As a result, the plot of such moves is often lacking and the script usually lacks any humor. I do like a few sci-fi films with some sort of monster in it that have a bit of humor added to it (aka John Carpenter's the Thing, The Sphere, etc etc) but usually it has to involve some sort of science fiction and technology to get me interested. I'm much more of a kaiju monster mash fan. :D

I love horror films; psychological horrors, old school slashers, terrible b-movies, ect. . . .

I believe that horror is the most difficult genre to create, as making someone feel fear from a movie just seems so difficult to do (jumpscares and torture porn are not scary). So when a horror movie is generally creepy or terrifying, it really garners my respect.

I like a good horror film. But being no aficionado of the genre, I’d struggle to recommend anything particularly obscure. My top three are probably The Shining, The Omen and The Wicker Man (in that order). I tend to prefer creepy, atmospheric affairs to slashers and gorefests.

hell yes i love them..slashers are my fav and i love old obscure and rare stuff..i got quite a collection

Yes. I like all of the above. The cheesy ones, the good ones, everything in between. I have to be in the right mood though.

Love horror movies. I'm a huge zombie fanatic but I like gore too . The two Conjuring films were really good and the paranormal activity films are good .

The original Candyman movie is a blast. Much more thoughtful than a standard slasher and Tony Todd puts in an excellent performance.

I would recommend "In the Mouth of Madness" by John Carpenter, it's one of my fav's as it takes a lot of influence from H.P. Lovecraft. I would also suggest "Lord's of Illusion". I also enjoyed "Pinochio's Revenge".

For more mainstream, I would suggest "The Mist" (the movie, not the series), and "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", as well as "The Blair Witch Project" (That one still creeps me out, even though I know it's fake).

Oh, man, are you in for a ride. When I'm not adulting, I'm watching horror movies. Here's my top ten:

The Thing, The Void, The Witch, The Shining, Tetsuo the Ironman, Taste the Blood of Dracula, Witchfinder General, The Wickerman, Pontypool, Ichi the Killer...and a bonus 11th one (because of the line "Get off my case, motherfucker!") Cannibal Ferox.

Get your spookle boots on.

I highly recommend Martyrs [2008], the original French version, not the lackluster American remake. A wonderful and thrilling ride into the depths of human beliefs. The atmosphere (with a strong emphasis on "fear") is breathtaking, and the story is delightfully mature, supported until the amazing ending by top-notch acting from the nearly all-female cast. The themes evoked are torture and its post-traumatic effects, revenge, friendship in the face of adversity, religion and femininity. A must-see for any horror fan, and for anyone who likes good movies in general. Personally, it is my favorite movie, ever. Beware though, it's not for the faint-hearted.

This is great list, Captain! A big fan of Asian cinema myself, I could not help but notice the excellent Tetsuo and Ichi. Tetsuo in particular is not very well-known, which is a damn shame given the cleverness of its story.

A suggestion: maybe you should add that you meant to recommend The Wicker Man [1973], the original one with Christopher Lee and not the atrocious remake that starred Nicolas Cage. It would be a shame to mislead people while trying to point them towards excellent films.

A question also. You mentioned The Witch; do you mean the 2015 movie which was subtitled A New England Folk Tale (or something like this), or is it another one? Thank you~

I love horror movies and I have made threads detailing my opinions on the child's play and Friday the 13th film series with a thread about Halloween coming out soon

A horror movie thread? I'm home [emoji41]

If anybody wants some recommendations just post a few of your faves and I'll fire back with some.

As of right now, here's a few you may not have seen that deserve a look.

The Attic Expeditions
(This has an especially chilling scene involving one of the minor characters. I'll just say if your mind was trapped in the body of a hand puppet, who would believe you?)

The Abominable Dr. Phibes
(Vincent Price at his best. I honestly believe if not for this movie, the Saw series wouldn't exist.)

Brainscan
(The Trickster is a horror villain that deserved more than just one film. Just watch and you'll see what I mean.)
