It has been observed that there isn't a more important co-evolutionary relationship than that of dogs and humans. From their origins as a now-extinct breed of wolf to the various breeds today, they have impacted every level of human society.
It is likely what we're best at and what separates us from the rest of life. We make nature adapt to us.

There's actually a new film being released in about a month whose premise is telling the story of the "alpha" wolf-to-dog:

Personally, I would have preferred they kept the original title, The Solutrean, for all its geeky, paleoanthropological associations, but I guess maybe it sounded too much like Soul Train.
