Funny enough, he's from one of those American towns that have a quaint French name, like Des Moines or Bâton Rouge~ Fond du Lac (Wisconsin) means Bottom of the Lake.

That otherwise fascinating article nevertheless got one fact wrong (et tu, Reader's Digest?):

12. Samuel Jackson’s character came pretty close in Pulp Fiction: a Quarter Pounder in France is called a Royal Cheese, not a Royale with Cheese.

It was of course John Travolta's character Vincent who so enlightened Samuel Jackson's Jules with that high-calorie nugget of intercultural knowledge early in the classic flick.

Absolutely. And funny enough, in the French dubbing that slight mistake was corrected; he does say "Royal Cheese"

However, the fans of the film will be disappointed to learn that at the turn of the 2000s, most French movie theaters stopped selling beer, which had never been served in glass cups contrary to what Vincent says... except maybe in select locations such as the Champs Elysées, where Tarantino as a young writer probably came upon the anecdote. It's sad; I'd take a beer over a soda pretty much any day :toast:
