Cleveland Indians Abandon "Chief Wahoo " Logo.

The Cleveland Indians announced yesterday that they will be "Abandoning the Chief Wahoo" logo..

The logo had been the team's signature for decades.

This decision was made because it was decided that the logo was "insensitive to Native Americans".

As everyone who knows me is aware, I always try to be respectful of the feelings of all groups.

I personally think that this goes too far.

I don't see how having a logo with an Indian on it.. is "disrespectful" to the feelings of Native Americans.

I also don;t realistically see how the team can be called "Indians" To me, the logo represents the team.


Thoughts on this?

Actually, I thought it was kind of a dumb logo to begin with.

I know two people who root fanatically for the Cleveland Indians. One has always viewed the Chief Wahoo logo as an embarrassment, but the other loves the logo and uses it as her LiveJournal icon. So on the basis of that small sample, expect a mixed reaction to the news among their fans.
