Several hours from now Punxsutawney Phil will make his annual winter forecast.

If Phil sees his shadow then we will have six more weeks of winter, however if he does not see his shadow then we will have an early spring.

For the record, Staten Island Chuck just predicted an early spring and didn't bite anybody.

Here in Georgia, General Beauregard Lee predicted 6 more weeks of winter; as Desdemona said - DUH! Checking some of his history since I've lived here, he did well in 2009, as we got hit with a humongous (well, for Atlanta) 4.2" snowfall on March 1; that year he predicted the normal winter's end. However, we had another 4.2" snowfall on March 13, 1993, when he had predicted an early spring. We also got nailed in 1983 with 7.9", but before my tme here, and likely the General's. Couldn't dig up any data for other years; then again, I didn't dig that heavily into weather data, just major snowfalls down here. FWIW.
