Hotel Somerset, 65 E. Main St., Somerville
The ghosts of three children and several adults are suspected of haunting by the owners and residents of the historic Hotel Somerset, a boarding house that was built in 1748 and once accommodated George Washington and his troops during the American Revolution. Like the Union Hotel, the establishment was the epicenter of a sensational trial, the 1926 Halls-Mills murder case. No one is sure whether the ghosts are related to the war, the trial or something else, but residents have complained of their feet being tickled while sleeping. A night-vision surveillance system has picked up what appear to be orbs, and voices have been recorded by paranormal investigators. During the reporting of a 2014 story, I heard the voice myself seem to say “Evelyn,” the name of a neighbor of the hotel during the 1950s
