Last year I was 1-3 in the first round. Let's see if I can do better this year.
Colts vs.Texans in Houston.
I see this coming down to how well the offensive lines perform. The Colts protected Luck like the Hope Diamond in the regular season, giving up just 18 sacks. It should be noted though that a lot of them came in the two regular season meetings between these teams. The Colts will need a credible ground game to take some of the pressure off against a Texans defense that gave up an average of just 82 yards on the ground in 16 games.
The pours Texans line allowed a league most 62 sacks. Watson can be dangerous out of the pocket but with Fuller and Thomas out it won't be enough. The Texans red zone efficiency in the regular season was just 27%.
Bug's pick: Colts.
Seahawks vs. Cowboys in Arlington.
Seattle comes into this game averaging 160 rushing yards per game. The Dallas D gave up just 94.6 yards on the ground. Even with that fast, mobile corps of linebackers I'm not confident their defense can contain that Seahawks ground game. In the end, the experience Russell Wilson has in big games will be the difference.
Bug's pick: Seattle.
Chargers vs. Ravens in Baltimore.
I've been going back and forth on this game all week. The Ravens beat the Bolts just a few weeks ago but Anthony Lynn is great at making adjustments even during a game. Phillip Rivers is playing some of the best football of his career and Gordon is said to be back to 100%. For the Chargers to come out on top he will have to crack a Ravens defense that gave up just 82 rushing yards per game. Correction: Just heard on NFL Network Gordon may in fact not be 100%.
Lamar Jackson will be the youngest QB to ever start an NFL playoff game. Will he handle the pressure? With the help of that relentless ground game that grinds out first downs and chews up clock time, I think he will.
Bug's pick: Ravens.
Eagles vs. Bears in Chicago.
We all know what Nick Foles did in the 2017 season, and how he saved the Eagles season this time. This may be his last time wearing Eagles green, and he inspires confidence in his teammates. Philly has a great offensive line but the fierce pass rush from Mack & Co. will be too much. The magic carpet ride comes to an end at Soldier Field.
