I believe there is a high percentage of abuse survivors in that business, and that combined with the shock of transitioning from modeling to a more traditional life can be really treacherous.
Lisa was one of the pioneers of the tickling model community, and like so many of that first wave came to it as an all purpose fetish model (Bondage, Spanking, etc) who found producers that liked her, and fans that showed a lot of appreciation. I had a brief e-mail exchange with her long ago when I was working on a pet project about the history of the tickling industry, and she was a professional and polite contact that I enjoyed briefly speaking with. At 55, she did suffer an early death, and as always it's a loss, to her family, friends, and fans.
I chopped out the quote above for a specific reason.
It's an untruth. For decades there has been a constant narrative about all people who work in the sex industry, from models, to strippers, to prostitutes, to escorts, to cam girls that some abuse in their past drove them onto the dark path of sex work, and that they worked it out somehow via the sex work.
It's just not true. Like any profession sex work has people from all sorts of backgrounds and histories. There is a general agreed upon number that about one third (as in 1 out of 3) women in our culture suffer some form of abuse as they reach adulthood. So all the female teachers, police officers, lawyers, and so on can be said to 'have entered their professions because of their abuse equally. But we don't say that unless the 'work' they do is sex work. Because of the cultural prejudices that surround all things sexual.
People suffer mental health issues, illness, bad luck, bad relationships, and so forth that often put them in dark places in later life. And modeling is a hard job to transition from when the years have taken away your marketability and you've known little else. All that can make for some hard years.
I just want to make a point that just because someone is in the sex work profession, that it doesn't mean they have a trauma or such that put them there. They are not broken by default. Just remember they are fully formed people, with complex issues and lives like your own. They just chose a job that has the description of 'turning you on' so you can find some personal enjoyment.
My deepest sympathy to Lisa's family and friends.
