As a kid growing up, I LOVED Roger Moore as Bond. To be fair, no Bond actor was ever miscast in my view, they all did very well. But if I really have to choose one I'd really pick Pierce Brosnan because he is the closest physically to what Ian Fleming envisioned, he has the perfect balance of cold-bloodiness and charm, and his movies are all fantastic, damn near flawless. Then again:

- Sean Connery is the most iconic
- George Lazenby played Bond in his most character-defining moment
- Roger Moore gave Bond the mix of suave charm and humour that perfectly befitted his decade
- Timothy Dalton had the two best stories in the whole franchise
- Daniel Craig played the "elite assassin" side of Bond perfectly (undermined by terrible scripts, but still...)

Great analysis, Tenebrae! I like them all too. But I must admit I have a soft spot for Moore

Sean Connery hands down, a true legend and mark was left by him. He had the perfect combination of charm, suave and confident sophistication you would expect from the character.
It's impossible to not compare any successive Bonds to him. Brosnan was a close second, but for a while I enjoyed Roger Moore for his portrayal of Bond. I thought Daniel Craig might take Connery's crown, but recent mixed Bond movies post Casino Royale has really made me not enjoy his take. Kudos to him for working with what is given to him.
I just hope whoever they cast next as James Bond 007 they get the confidence and charm back that belongs to the character. I do have my choice on who I would like to see as Bond. But that's a topic for another thread.

Quite well put.

Lazenby gave the character a human edge, something Dalton would again do later.

But for me it's a cross Between Connery in his first 4 films and Dalton.

I only wish Dalton had done Goldeneye.

Roger Moore's films are fun to watch but he is not my favourite Bond, Brosnan for me just seems like he is trying to be the cool kid and Craig... I find him boring to watch, nothing human about the character and seems to spend most of the time walking around brooding. I think also for me his films have come along when in my opionion the Bond franchise has become very generic and boring.

After the disaster of Die another die, the producers just seemed to want to follow Jason Bourne and because of that, Bond imo lost it's uniqueness.
