Apparently, following an investigation by the NYT, Pornhub has decided to restrict upload to verified users only.

That's quite a big change for the industry, many things will change about piracy, how people watch their clips ...

That's all interesting to watch
 
Call me pessimistic, but I am unsure this will change much. It seems to me that the problem doesn't lie in the status of the poster but rather in the nature of the clip that was posted. As in, a verified user could still be posting pirated content by the dozen, couldn't they?

If you're verified once and banned once, presumably it would be harder to sign up again. Not impossible, but harder.
 
If they take ID too in their KYC it would be transmitted to interpol or something when someone uploads really bad things

I don't think that this will be the issue. Instead, I'm afraid that, as with any regulated activity, the regulation on one platform will just push piracy and deviant behavior to other platforms.

This seems like a laudable step for Pornhub, but I'm not sure that it's really "good news," all considered.
 
I think a lot of people are not really conscious about hurting studios when they browse Pornhub. It's been around for ages, and when a clip you like is on free access for a decent quality, why even buy it ?

So this can't hurt, and we platforms and studios should continue to offer a good service and good prices.
 
And now they removed 85 % of the videos (everything uploaded by non verified).

+ They went Full crypto.

That's tough for a company
 
Literally every PH video I had in my favorites got purged. It's insane.

Full-length videos getting pulled makes sense, on copyright grounds. But prieview clips designed to generate purchases? OOP videos? Amateur videos? Makes no sense at all.

Previews and promos, provided the producer made a point to get verified (and with the benefits that were included there was no reason not to) were spared.
 
I'm not sure how to feel, because on one hand it was a place I could go and watch free clips at no cost but on the other hand you have to sympathize for the clip store owners and the website producers their product is being shown for free and people were able to download it and pirate it Etc. So yes it is unfortunate for pornhub.com, who knows things may start looking up in 2021.
