Do you think that the tickle fetish is creeping into the mainstream conscious?

I was just thinking about that Tickled documentary, and the play in London that it was based on. Also the show on Netflix about the creepy teacher who tickles the students. I was wondering if the tickle fetish is becoming more well known, like the foot fetish is well known in the mainstream. If it is, then it doesn't seem to be in a good light of being between consenting adults, and it doesn't seem to represent women with the fetish at all.

Do you think that people in general are aware that this fetish exists?

I don't think alot of people know that the fetish exists. IMO the documentary tickled and the other show you mentioned on netflix it feels like it's giving the fetish a bad name because it shows the bad side of it and when people see their going to be all like eeww gross don't touch me or something like that. Furthermore some or the majority are going to think that were creeps regardless of consent. Don't get me wrong theirs alot of people who like to be tickled. But the vast majority either have tickle phobia or don't like getting touched like that. I do feel like one can change and be more open to the idea of the fetish and eventually like it but It depends on the person. I don't think the tickling fetish would be going mainstream yet because alot of people still don't know but I feel like if it does it would either set a bad name to the community based on the film's and shows that were based off of that or more people would join in based on information and research or even to talking to people who have already embraced it as their kink/fetish.

Tickled is a play???

*Quickly does Google search*

It's a MUSICAL?????

*Falls out of chair laughing.*

I'm sure it's a fine production but the concept cracks me up.

I think fetishes and the people who have them are constantly portrayed as strange. The media coverage has not been for the good. Even in Tickled when they interviewed one content maker who was tickling volunteers and not engaging in the skeevy behavior of the individual they were studying they still used film editing, music, and slow motion to try and make him look creepy. He later discussed that bit in a podcast though I don't remember which.

And there is still a lot of prudish propaganda out there.

No. Tickling as a thing that happens sporadically is sometimes in media because tickling is a thing that happens sporadically in peoples lives. Besides Tickled, which I don't think counts as much as "mainstream recognition of the tickling fetish" in the traditional sense, I've seen maybe a handful of things I would consider as "tickling fetish" specific in mainstream media. That fact that someone gets their foot tickled on a sitcom for maybe a few seconds is not a wink and a nod at the kinksters, the overwhelming majority of people tickle friends and loved ones at some point.

I would say, to some degree, yes.

An example off the top of my head is actually the show called "Riverdale", where it seems in the most recent season, they literally seem to have a story arch surrounding tickling fetish videos. I've also heard/seen a few clips/shows and such where the tickling fetish is briefly, or in some more detail explored.

Personally, I'm always a little worried when this type of thing becomes mainstreme, because some people just get the wrong idea. I mean, I love the idea of it helping people understand there fetish, or becoming a little more aware of the world, but sometimes, like any adult behavior, it can get pretty cringy.

It always bothers me to hear news stories where tickling has been involved in some form of unwanted harassment or assault. All we need is a newspaper revelation about Harvey Weinstein tickling someone during one of his assaults and the category will get banned from clips4sale.

I think people are moderately aware. Like I think people get fascinated with certain body parts. I think plus people more or less staying in and focusing on staying safe results in less sex, so more people will deviate mentally to things they normally wouldn't, just for thrills.

As far as the documentary and media.... yea, we look a little odd, tickling people and all. Ignoring the actual details to what they were about, just keep in mind that maybe playing the fetish life down is a smart way to go.

That ticked doc pissed me the fuck off. It just had to be m/m. If it had been any other....

"If it had been any other"... what would have been different?

What do you mean "It just had to be m/m"? It was m/m because that's what D'Amato was into and the doc Tickled was made to expose what he was doing behind the scenes.

It would have been worth watching.

So it would of been worth watching if D'Amato was into female tickling? The doc wasn't made for tickle fetishests to get off on you know.

Obviously yes. Does not change how I feel.

As has been pointed out, it wasn't designed to be stroke-off material; it was about a mean, creepy dude who blackmailed young people and used his family's wealth and influence to cover for him.

And you're butt-hurt because it's not C4S material?

Butthurt? No my assholes fine. Do I disagree? No. Do I like it? No.

To be honest I don't think tickling as a fetish is even close to the mainstream, I think some of this stuff still shows tickling as something more fun and playful as opposed to a fetish that consenting people take part in. The tickled documentary, though more along the fetish lines, however still showed tickling in a negative light and it wasn't showing tickling as a fetish, more of a competition than actual fetish if I remember rightly. I still find it very difficult to meet other people into tickling as a fetish, even people with other similar fetishes find it strange or have not heard of it. I think we are a long way away from tickling being anywhere near mainstream. Nice thought tho hehe

Tickling as a fetish seems to be sort of gaining more notice, but I think it has a while to go before it gets mainstream acknowledgement. Personally I've only seen Tickled mentioned once or twice outside of the tickling community, and I haven't heard about that Mindhunter episode until someone here brought it up.

Personally no I don't well not yet anyway but I believe foot fetishism has well and truly made its mark in Mainstream media.

As someone who is usually on the wrong side of the mainstream media's opinions on things, I'd rather they just ignore us. 99% of the time, they will portray us the way they portrayed that guy on The Bachelorette back in 2006 or so. Even if i was able to build a rapport with someone making a documentary or news segment, I have no confidence that the producers and / or editors wouldn't edit it to make me look bad.

I think people do know the fetish and think its weird. thats all. I like more when TV shows approach tickle fetish openly as a fetish and a normal thing than when they put a goat to lick people feet "for fun" in a game, i believe THIS looks creepier than a documentary about tickle porn.
The documentary TICKLED pissed me off too. I believe no one here liked that. That's more of the general media putting fetish and real violence in the same bag or associating bdsm with rape

we are talking as if mainstream public were naive and could would only get what is a tickle fetish when they're told "look, this is a fetish" or if they are shown a real porn video. but I guess is quite obvious anyway. just like us, the mainstream public also grew up watching unusual tickling scenes on tv and knowing people obsessed by tickle others all the time.. they probably know and don´t care.

So this sounds like "once a creep always a creep"?

In part, for sure. We’ve been marginalized from the start. The word “fetish” creeps people out to start with, and when these negative stories come out, like the recent post about the schoolteacher tv episode, the “pervert” label is applied yet again. It’s often the only place people will hear about the tickle, er, fetish. So instead of being part of healthy sexuality, as it should be, tickling is forever branded by many as perversion.
