After the inconsistent homestand, the Good Guys took two of three on a brief road trip. When they returned home, Paradise Island and Nassau were buzzing, but not about the Good Guys. The NBA's Nassau Seas, who played across the parking lot from the Good Guys at Paradise Round Garden, had made it to the NBA finals, and the area was beserk with excitement. By a stroke of lucky scheduling, the Good Guys, who were all rabid Seas fans, had a homestand that would allow them to see all of the Nassau Seas games at Paradise Round Garden in the NBA finals. Game times would be changed from 7:35 to 1pm, but the team reasoned that no one in the area would attend a mid June Good Guy game with the Seas in the finals, so this would boost attendance.
The Seas were a cindarella team that year. After disposing of the Atlanta Hawks in four games in a best of seven first round, the Seas proceeded to bounce the Knicks in six in the second round, and then took care of the New Jersey Nets in seven tough games the Eastern Conference finals. This brought the Seas face to face with the mighty Los Angeles Lakers, the world champions of basketball. The Seas march to the title was almost a mirror image of the one the Good Guys faced the first time they faced the Yankees, a young team who needed to beat the World Champs to establish their place in the sport's elite class. 20,000 screaming fans, among them all the members of the Good Guys, packed Paradise Round Garden for Game 1 of the finals. The Seas, a scrappy team dependent on defense to survive, knew they had to contain the Lakers two superstars, Kobe Byrant and Shaquille O Neal, to survive the finals. The experts didnt give the Seas a chance, figuring the Lakers would mop them up in five or at most six games. During Game 1, the Seas stifling defense confused the Lakers, as neither Shaq or Kobe could produce much offense. The Seas rallied from 9 points down in the fourth quarter, with the fans deafening noise amongst them , to win, 99-90. One down, three to go. The island was bedlam, large crowds for the Good Guys at the ballpark by day, and sellout crowds at the NBA arena by night. In Game 2, the Seas once again played their frazzling defense from the get go. The experienced Lakers, however, had learned from their Game 1 loss, and made adjustments to beat the Seas pressing defense. Los Angeles was up by 9 going into the fourth quarter. This time, instead of stifling the Lakers, the Seas star player put together a shooting clinic, scoring 20 points alone in the 4th quarter, to overcome the Lakers offense. The Lakers missed a game winning 3 pointer at the buzzer, and the Seas survived again, 105-103. The fans in the arena were beside themselves with euprhoria, but the Seas coach and everyone else knew that the team was only halfway to a title, and that the Lakers would not roll over and die.
An off day to fly to Calfornia gave everyone a chance to calm down, and on that off day, the Good Guys played a night game, and won a routine affair behind Kate Hudson and Mandy, 5-3. The 25,000 at the ballpark were subdued, despite the win, as everyone was exhausted from the basketball craze that the island was experiencing.
The Seas received a dose of reality when they arrived in Los Angeles. They were blown out in Game 3, suffered a one point heartbreaking loss in Game 4, and collapsed after taking a 10 point lead into the fourth quarter of Game 5. The Good Guys had so many times been in the position the Seas were now in, down 3 games to 2, needing to win Games 6 and 7 at home, they had done so, and tried to stress that to the Seas as the team returned to Paradise for Game 6.
On the afternoon of Game 6, the Good Guys had won an exciting game on a 9th inning homerun by Mitch. That night, all eyes were on the arena across the parking lot, to see if the Seas could bring the island a championship the way that the Good Guys had. The Lakers wanted to come out hot early, and quiet the crowd, but the Seas had other ideas. Furious about their performance in California, the Seas coach ripped into his team before Game 6, stressing that they could and should win the finals if they came out and played as they had in the first two games. The Seas took the court that night shooting the lights out of the ball, and built up a 20 point lead in the 2nd quarter. Everyone in the arena knew that the game wasnt over, as the Lakers chipped away and clamped down their defense. Shockingly, the Seas hit a cold streak, and allowed the Lakers to tie and then take the lead late in the fourth quarter. The fans tried in vain to give the Seas one last push, but even they knew that if the team fell to the Lakers, the Seas had already had an amazing season. Suddenly, with three minutes left, and a five point lead, the Lakers, instead of putting the Seas away, went cold. The Seas tied the game, and then, with three seconds left, the star player hit a shot to give Nassau a two point lead. The Lakers had one last timeout left. After they took it, the teams came back onto the court. Kobe Bryant went up for a three point shot to attempt to win the game for LA, but a Sea player got his hand on it, the shot missed, and the buzzer sounded! The Seas had won, 100 to 98. The series was tied 3-3, on its way to an incredible 7th game. No one seemed to have an ounce of energy left, but it would be another 24 hours before a champion waas crowned.
Nassau and Paradise were very subdued before Game 7 of the finals. At the ballpark that afternoon, the Good Guys won their game by a score of 4-1 in front of about 28,000 almost calm fans. There wasnt much noise in the park at all, as everyone was saving their energy for that night. One more sellout crowd jammed Paradise Round Garden for Game 7 of the NBA finals. It was do or die, winner take all, and both teams were ready. The tension in the air was evident in the first quarter, as the Lakers were bothered by the Seas pressure defense, an advantage for the Seas. Both the teams and the fans knew that this one wouldnt be over until the end. The teams went to halftime, tied, 45-45, and were tied at 70 at the end of the third quarter. Every trip down the floor by both teams was met with first a scream, then a sigh, as the teams went back and forth. Late in the fourth quarter, with about four minutes left, the Lakers took a four point lead, and it was wondered if the Seas would suffer a heartbreaking loss on their home floor in the last game of the finals. Suddenly, out of nowhere, over a 2 and a half minute span, the Seas shot off seven straight points, taking a 3 point lead, and sending the arena into chaos. Another tie was followed by a Seas basket with 10 seconds left. With a two point lead, each team missed a shot, giving the ball back to the Lakers with two seconds left and the Seas with a two point lead. After the timeout, the Lakers inbounded the ball. Seas defenders covered both the three point line, and the inner court, attempting to make sure the Lakers didnt win the game at the end with a three pointer. Suddenly, Kobe got a decent look, and shot a three pointer with a defender in his face, which would have won the game for the Lakers had it been good. As everyone in the arena screamed NOOOO!, and the shot went up, it bounced off the rim and the buzzer sounded. The Seas had won Game 7, 96 to 94, and were the NBA champions! Paradise Round Garden was a madhouse, as the thunderous screams and applause shook the building as the Seas celebrated at center court, and the Lakers looked on in stunned disbelief, with coach Phil Jackson stroking his beard in silence.
In a champange filled locker room, the Seas and Good Guys gathered, celebrating the championship of the "Other" Paradise Island team. Like the Good Guys several years earlier, no one had given the Seas a chance, and now they were the champions of the NBA after knocking off the perennial World Champion Lakers to conclude what had been a magical season. For once, the Good Guys were happy to take second fiddle to the Seas. It didnt matter right now what the baseball team was doing in June, what mattered is that the island had a second championship team.
That night, following the postgame ceremonies, the Seas joined the Good Guys for a postgame celebration at the club. The Seas had to that point conducted themselves as just another basketball team, and didnt engage in the tickling that the Good Guys partcipated in. When the Seas entered the club that night, they did so to thunderous applause, and had fetish dancers climbing all over them for lap dances. It was almost if for that one night, few people cared what the Good Guys did, as the Seas were the attention getters of the evening. Finally, after some lap dancing, and champange, the Seas and Good Guys retired to the back room with two go go dancers, a brunette and a blonde. Both were tied hands and feet to the bed in black bras and panties, and this time the Good Guys sat on the sidelines as the Seas star player, their 7 foot center, began the tickle on the brunette's neck with his fingers as the giggles began: Hehehehehehehe! NO! Moving down, the center tickled the beautiful go go dancer on her underarms and sides as she thrashed at her restraints. Hehehehehehehehee! NO! NO! Working his way down the dancer's body, the center tickled her on her inner thighs, causing her to buck. Finally, the NBA star got to the soft soles of the go go girls beautiful bare feet. After procuring instruments given to him by the tickle expert Good Guys, the Seas player tickled the hotter than fire go go girl on the soles of her feet with fingers, feathers, and ice on her soles and over her toes. This drove the stripper beserk! She flexed, pointed, and wiggled her toes every which way as she squealed with girlish laughter, and begged him to stop. Hehehehehehehehe! Please no! I give up! NO! NO! NO! Hehehehehehehe!
When the tickle of the brunette was completed, another Seas player, a 6 foot 9 inch forward, sat on the bed near the bound blonde dancer. The forward began the tickle on her neck with fingers as the giggles filled the room. Hehehehehehehehehe! NO! NO! Next, the forward moved down, tickling the blonde on her underarms, sides, and belly with fingers as she thrashed and squealed. Heheheheheheheheheehehe! Ticklish! NO! NO! Please! Hehehehehehe! Running his fingers down her inner thighs, the forward tickled the hot blonde go go dancer on her inner thighs, causing her to buck her legs. He then got to the pretty feet of the blonde stripper, tickling her with fingers on her soles, and over, under and inbetween her toes, and also using a feather and ice over her soles and inbetween her toes. This drove the dancer wild! She flexed, pointed, and wiggled her toes every which way as she filled the room with hysterical laughter, tears came to her eyes, and she begged him to stop! Hehehehehehehehehe! I give up! I surrender! Please no more! NO! NO! Please NO! Hehehehehehehehehee!
Finally, the tickle stopped, and the two exhausted dancers were untied. The party, in the meantime, continued until 4am, as the island and the teams soaked in every last drop of celebration of the improbable championship. So, for that week, both the island's and the Good Guys attention had been focused on the Seas. Now the Seas had accomplished the ultimate, and it was time to return to baseball. It had been a euphoric, wonderful, week, and now it was time to return to the grind. For one week the Seas had upstaged and then matched the Tickle Team from Paradise Island, and now the Good Guys had work to do of their own. What would happen next? Stay tuned.
