WARNING- impostor sending email with attachments in my name!
Hey Gang, everyone needs to take a peek at this since it could come around to anyone at random. Apparently, at least one of my friends has gotten more than one of these. They're getting emails that appear to be from me, Affectionate Dan@AOL.com, but there's a subtle difference in the spelling of my screen name, and there's an attachment on it, something like "Joke.exe" or something to that effect. Sounds like some shitbird is trying to distribute a virus.
Be careful!!!
I know some of you may be rolling your eyes and saying, "Well Fu@&ing DUH, Dan," but there are also those of you who'd just open it without thinking about it. Here's where a little paranoia will pay off, people. Hopefully whomever this is will die choking on their own bodily waste, and end up in a special corner of Hell.
Thanks for your attention.

Hey Dan, run a virus scan on your computer. My computer when infected was sending out emails all by itself... it was a little creepy I thought but anyhow, problem solved after I eliminated a virus.
Thank you for the warning, your friends who are used to getting emails from you might open an attachment not thinking that you would ever DARE send anything with a virus... you didn't... but your computer did...

Dan, thank you for the warning. It is appreciated. I will be mindful and watchful.
Oh, and as to Kitten's post about how her computer was sending out emails automatically due to the virus infection she had, that is one of the weirdest and creepiest things I have ever heard! Damn! You think you've heard everything, well, tonight I heard a new one! Iam glad you solved that problem, kitten! Scary!

Yeah, those are called Worm Viruses (what's the plural of virus, anyway?), and they can get into your Address Book and send themselves to everyone you know! I've so far only heard about this from one person I know, so I think it may be isolated, but we'll see. I've gotta shake my computer and see if anything falls out, though.

Dont shake too hard.... !@%&** something might fall off......
-
could always drop it from a really tall building like i want to do with mine *&%$#@! mouse problem grrrrrrr.
-
Norton didn't trip over anything, and my virus definitions are current, so it's gotta be some D*@& head doing this...
-
Did they delete the email yet? If not I can trace it back if you can forward a copy. If it happens again, let me know and then get a copy to me as a forward.

Thanks!

Actually there /is/ a lag time between when a virus is released and when it gets into the definitions. I've found a virus before that hadn't made it into the official definitions yet. I would just keep updating and running now and then for the next couple of weeks to be sure.

I suggest also for those using programs like ie and outlook express to switch to programs that aren't as closely integrated with windows, such as the ones at mozilla.org; eudora is another mail program I've used within the last year or so.
