Its almost Thanksgiving.....what are you doing?

OK, its not even after Thanksgiving yet and when I went to the mall today, THEY HAD ALREADY DECORATED FOR CHRISTMAS AND HAD A FREAKING MALL SANTA IN THERE ALREADY!!!!
This is INSANITY!!! I mean come on......what happened to Thanksgiving, sheesh what happened to Halloween. THere used to be color store display's for thanksgiving. Pilgrims and such, Turkeys, big plates of food...now nothing.

Who else besides me is just going bonkers having to hear Christmas Music in Malls already! Are you all with me?!?!?!
I remember when I was 10 (Im 33 now) and christmas wasn't big until December 1st. Then when I was 18 it was cool to do it after thanksgiving. Then when I was 25 it was common to see ads before Thanksgiving. About 3 years ago I saw christmas stuff the first week of November. And NOW it has all been topped. Ive been seeing Christmas stuff since Halloween.
THIS MUST STOP BEFORE WE START SEEING CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS ON LABOR DAY WEEKEND, AND THEN 4TH OF JULY..AND SOON THEY WILL NEVER EVER COME DOWN!!! THATS NOT MY AMERICA!!!
As a matter of fact Im unleashing my army of highly trained attack Turkey's to all shopping centers to "TAKE BACK THEIR HOLIDAY", they will use special "Turkey Juice Serum" to attack Mall Santa's or anyone playing Christmas music or having an overall "Christmasy good time" by decorating and such before Thanksgiving Day. Here is a picture of what my Turkey's look like so you can all avoid them...or fear them, depending on your feelings of this.. this.. AAARRRRUUUUGGGHHHH!!!!! Its not time for Christmas YET!!!

Please, dont fall into the trap...Id hate for my turkey's to baste one of you.

Hey ... I'm with you there ... Thanksgiving has always been my favourite holiday! (I saved the pic you posted)

This whole Christmas thing has gotten so bogusly out hand! I've been sick of it for yonks now! It's just greed rearing it's ugly head, to me anyway.

Could it be perhaps that it is not a worldwide holiday?

I have to admit though, that since my dad died in May, it probably won't be the same.

hey storm i know exactly how you feel. send me a pm if you like. my mom had died the previous year to this one, and the holidays werent the same. so if you would like to vent, feel free to pm.

anyway david and i are going out to eat. we started going out to eat shortly after dad died, we would take mom out to a great restaurant, you would be surprised how many people went out to eat. now that she is dead, and we dont travel up to see her, we will go out to the radisson here in town. and i agree robace, gee this year even before halloween started. christmas cookies in the grocery store. one has to wonder just whats in those cookies to last so long.

I agree, the Christmas season starts way to early. One of our local radio stations is already playing Christmas music 24/7. This started right after Halloween. The holiday pressure is on.

To this I can only say: What the fudge?

It seems Christmas is being "celebrated" early everywhere:

Ho ho ho, Merry Thanksgiving, and a Happy Christmas to all.

Actually, if you want to get technical about it, the Christmas season doesn't start until Christmas Eve and then runs until early January. It's the holiday shopping season (which most people refer to as the Christmas season) that starts so early. I must admit that this is one of my major pet peeves. No wonder people get so crazy and forget what it's really about!

Our cable service has a wide variety of music channels that run 24/7. So, whatever kind of music you're in the mood for, you can turn on the TV and find it. There's one specificly for "Sounds of the Season". We'd been enjoying listening to the Halloween selection before heading down to Phili for the actual holiday. When we got back...all of 2 days after Halloween...I turned it on to listen to while running laundry.

You guessed it! They already had Christmas music on. I was so ticked that I shut it off. I love Christmas music too. But, not THIS early. Heck, it's not even Advent yet! Besides, who wants to hear "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" when it's 70 degrees out? GRRR!!!

Oh and yes. I WILL be celebrating Thanksgiving....with family and friends...and other turkeys too!

    Ann

I'm taking time to do just that...and trying to get our lives back on track.

yes ann you are right. i am lutheran, and we werent supposed to put up the tree until christmas eve. however my parents would put it up much earlier for us kids. and yes advent hasnt started. gee i like halloween and thanksgiving also, it seems the ad people rush christmas earlier and earlier.
and about that its beginning to look alot like christmas, when we were in st john in the virgin islands, i saw someone with christmas decorations up already and i wondered how could one feel christmasy in such warm environments? although if you want to get technical, bethlehem didnt have snow lol

Well, I have a carry-in dinner at the church on Nov. 13 (I'll probably take a pie or something) The nursing home where Dad stays is having theirs on the Nov. 17. (Anyone up for some purreed turkey and dressing? Poor Dad!)

On the actual day, I've convinced Mom to make my three favs her homemade oyster dressing, pea salad and harlequin salad. I wait all year for all three.
We are not having turkey this year. Neither of us like it and it's just the two of us now so why buy a huge turkey? We'll have rotisserie chicken or something.

I can relate to Rob and Isabeau about holidays without loved ones. Since dad went into the home, holidays are NOT the same. I miss Dad terribly some days but he's where he needs to be.

I want to thank rob for starting this thread. I might take some of the ideas here, expand them and write another guest spot story for my local newspaper(I have had 15 published so far since 2000) Thanks!!!

sorry to hear that about your dad crydun. during moms final years, she was in an assisted living place which was like a four star hotel or resort. and at thanksgiving and christmas they had family dinners for families. and although i dont like turkey that much, wow theirs was great, juicy tender and tasted great. and about oyster dressing, my dads favorite. sighs. rotisserie chicken is a good idea.

    Daddy's Little Girl Lyrics
    by Dream
    [ Download Dream Ringtones ] [ Send to a friend ]

    The day was August 3rd
You looked into my eyes [my eyes]
And told me that you would always be by my side [my side]
And through the good and bad
    Times have been right here
That's why I want you to know that you're so dear [so dear]

    Chorus:
    And I'll always be
I'll always be daddy's little girl
No matter what happens in this world
I'll always be daddy's little girl
No matter what happens in this world

And some day I'll be a bride [be a bride]
But don't you worry daddy [daddy]
Cause you'll always be number one, number one in my heart
And I'll never forget the times that we have shared [have shared]
And ooooh, I love you daddy, I love you daddy

    Chorus

    Chorus to fade
Look in the mirror. Do you see Jesus looking back?

This will be hard this year without my wife and kids for this thanksgiving..this is my 1st one in 6 years alone. She can't get off of work and the hospital Im getting treatment at for my disease will not be done with phase 2 untill mid-december. My brother and sis-in-law and their kids will be in Alabama so I will be alone this Thanksgiving. This will really show me that Im thankful for what I do have (although they wont be with me). But Ill be okay..Ill make a little turkey, share it with their dog that they are leaving with me to "dog-sit" and I can watch all the football I want. It wont be the same but Ill make do.
That is unless any TMFers are in or around Athens GA. Give me a PM.

Thanksgiving is the BEST holiday of the year!!! All about family without all the presents, just their PRESENCE.

I'll probably be at Ford Field watching the Lions. Watching them makes me lose my turkey dinner before I even get a chance to eat it.

To elaborate on Bratgirl's testimony...that would be WSNI-FM, Sunny 104.5, down in Philadelphia. The wall to wall Christmas music started on the first of November. I wanted to send them a nasty email, but, like, that's gonna stop them? I find it very depressing. I liked it better when I was a kid, and you didn't start hearing music until two weeks before Christmas. By the time Jenna Bush is nominated for President, we'll start hearing Christmas music on the radio on the 4th of July.
