Honest Question....

Why is it bad to give infants honey? Just bought a huge jar of honey and it had a warning on the back. I just want to know.

The danger with honey is that it can be contaminated with botulism spores. These spores usually do not survive in the adult human body because the environment is too acidic. However, a baby's digestive system is not yet mature, nor acidic enough, to kill off these spores. The problem with the spores is that they can produce the deadly botulinum toxin. Then one gets a very sick, damaged, or dead baby.

Good lord....i think the last time i had honey i was a kid. I remember my mom giving me honey and whiskey for sore throats. Not sure if that said ...gee we are too poor for real medicine or perhaps just if you drink the stuff and it does'nt work you probably will feel to good to know anyhow.

As for the topic i learn something new everyday.

Thanks for the answer... LOL Up until this week... I haven't had honey since I was a kid either. But it's sooo good. I wonder why we stopped eating it.

Botulism.

Honey is great, but the consitancy of it as always made me queasy.
Another great tasting substance is Sorghumbut it's SO rich I can't eat a lot. It is great on rolls though.
