i'm just curious if anybody knows anything or has any experience with these particuler martial arts. I know a little about them, that is to say what i've read on wikipedia, and know that these are generally the fighting styles that Israeli special forces are taught, but i'm looking for the views of anybody who has either trained in them, or seen them in action.

I saw it on the show "Fight Quest". Looks pretty cool--but from what I've read, Krav Maga here in the U.S. is VERY watered-down, and there's alot of "mcdojos" teaching that version.

Kapap I've never heard of until just now, but I've seen bits and bobs relating to Krav Maga on various telly programmes and recently bought a manual purporting to have come from Imi Sde Or and some other krav maga top-head. From what I can see it's pretty much bog-standard combatives with an Israeli twist and some cheap quasi-spiritual nonsense thrown into the mix... except for the section concerning grenade defences - yes folks you read that right, they have half a chapter in the manual dedicated to disarming a man with a HAND GRENADE! :-D. Optimism, thy name is Mossad. There's nothing new or revolutionary contained therein; indeed, it's main selling point appears to be the fact that the techniques are all intuitive extensions of natural movements and reflexes, and they are... which begs the question why not just use your own natural reflex actions and extend them intuitively rather than buying a manual or paying an Israeli to shout at you for a couple of hours a week?

I never heard of these disciplines.

But, i have heard of Kung-sniper-rifle:woot:

Krav Maga, to hear it explained by some people, borrows traits from a few different fighting styles to combine into a singular form that allows someone so trained to engage in a number of opponents rather than just one or two. many of the moves are designed for the quick and easy disarming of another's weapon and either disposing the weapon or using it to buy yourself some time.

Kapap, however, i am completely in the dark about.

Something like that, insofar as I can see. It'd be easy to say it's a mesh of Japanese styles with a Hebrew label, though it's really not because it was developed and field-tested in Israel. Which sort of validates Bruce Lee's argument that there's no such thing as styles and schools; it's all just fighting 😀 What I would say to anyone considering getting interested in Krav Maga is that, certainly in the bits I've seen and the reading I've done, there ain't nothing in it that you can't learn elsewhere or simply "pick up" and discover for yourself with a bit of experience, and some of the weapon defences (the knife defences in particular) look decidedly dodgy and have the potential to go catastrophically wrong if you're not quick, strong or accurate enough. Obviously those things will come with time, and will likely already be present in the special forces personnel this thing is aimed at, but if you're going to release something to civvies you want it to be idiot-proof, and this ain't. Not in my opinionated opinion anyway.
