Okay, granted, we don't know who is going to be in the NBA Finals representing the Western Conference yet, but we do know after last night's Miami Heat win over the Detroit Pistons, that the Heat will represent the Eastern Conference.
I will be rooting for whoever wins the Western Conference to win it all, Dallas or the Suns. For a couple of reasons. First, Shaq already has three rings, with the Lakers from 2000-2002, and it would be nice to see someone new win the title.
Second, I despise Pat Riley. Although he has won four championships as a coach, he is probably one of the most arrogant, pigheaded, coaches alive. When he used to coach the Knicks in the early 90's, I watched most of his postgame press conferences, and he used to act like he was doing the press a favor by talking to them. Granted, the New York press can be cruel at times, and the Knicks fell short in each of his seasons with them, and never won a title. However, I just never could stand his whole attitude, and the way he dealt with them, and I haven't liked him since.
As for who will actually win the finals. It will be interesting. It will be a battle of Shaq and Wade, and the fine Heat defense, against the shootout West teams of either Dallas or Phoenix. If I were betting, I'd have to take the West, but the Heat have been a bit of a cinderella team so far this postseason, especially against the Pistons, so it's hard to count them out.
I'm going to post a poll, and my pick to win it all is Miami, based on Shaq's three titles, Riley's past Finals experience, and the Heat defense, as defense usually wins games in the postseason, and titles.
