Funny you would say that JPie, when I was listen to WFAN in New York all the fans and hosts and sportswriters had Yankees in a sweep. I wonder what changed their minds??? Fact is, you have Mr. Happy going for the Yankees on Friday with a bulging disk in his back. If he doesn't give the Yankees at least 6 innings then the Yankees are in trouble. Because the Yankees underbelly in their middle relief. Tigers get there then you could be count on Jared Wright to save your season. You might want to get the Jared from the Subway commercials to pitch if that is the case. Detroit in four. Here is how game two looked in the boxscore.

You and I are in total agreement on this one, if Johnson doesn't step up, the Yankees are done

Johnson is supposed to be the Skankees answer to the Mets Pedro. they are similar as in the fact that they are no longer in their prime and are not as dominant as they used to be. Pedro is out for half of next yr. the only difference is, an injured Pedro is more valuable than a healthy Unit. He brings something to the clubhouse that Randy cant match. Johnson is a big grump.

i say Tigers take it in 5

The GREAT New York Yankees are now down 2 games to 1 and in MAJOR trouble. Their season comes down to Jaret Wright. This could get UGLY!!!

I say either Tigers in four, or Yanks in five. If the Yankees go down, it will happen tomorrow night in Detroit. I dont see them losing a deciding fifth game in the Bronx on Sunday.

Just my call.

Can't have it both ways. First, Yankees in a sweep. Then Yankees in four. Now the Yankees in five. According to ALL Yankees fans this series should be over by a sweep by the Yankees. And how strong are the Yankees??? Kenny Rogers was suppose to get crushed by you guys. You guys were hitting .391 against him. That is the WHOLE line-up. So when exactly are the Yankees going to get strong. Want to know what I think??? I'll tell you anyway. This Yankees team is the BIGGEST BUST in Major League baseball history. Everyone is an All-Star but you have NO CHEMISTRY!!!

The Yankees of Mickey and Yogi and DiMaggio and Tommy Henrich and all the other stalwarts of the past would've found a way to beat Rogers. Instead, they stood with their mouths agape. This imploding loser whose specialty was walking in winning runs in post-season games pulled it out of his ass and pitched the greatest game of his career, surpassing even a previous no-hitter. At this time of writing (Saturday afternoon, in the middle innings of Game Four), the Yankees, with what the painfully mediocre Joe Buck called "arguably one of the most explosive lineups in the history of the game", haven't put one up on the board since Johnny Damon's three run homer, six months ago.

The aforementioned Yankees of Yore may not have been the best team on the field, but they always wound up on the winning end. Winning the crucial ones they had to win was their specialty. The specialty of this Yankee team is finding ways to lose after going up three oh...

Wow.

Better luck next year hon....

Tigers are too much for them to handle......

Yet again.....so close but yet so far.... :wavingguy

It's 8-1 in the 8th. I have to say, I am shocked...

Oh, man. I can't wait to see Steinbrenner blow up. Bust a blood vessel! Incredible.

The Yankees are prisoners of their embarrassing wealth. You got all these high priced guys, and you have no choice but to play them. They don't care about teams jelling, they just care about getting the best guys money can buy, and pressuring everyone for immediate gratification. Oh, well.

The crowd in Comerica's beside themselves. You see, what I've learned, is that you can't just think you could mail it in, or pack it in, for that matter, because of some adversity. Your team will prove its character soon enough. It has it. Or, it doesn't.

I hope Mrs. Pie enjoys the taste of her own foot, because she will be inserting it into her mouth after the bold predictions she made. The Tigers look like the best team in baseball to me. Great pitching.

Hey Skankee Fans!!!

na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, good bye!
na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, good bye!
na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, good bye!
na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, good bye!

What an incredible game....what serious pitching again by Detroit! Bonderman comes up with SERIOUS stuff!!!! I mean, come on....by the 7th inning, he'd only thrown 55 pitches and the Yankees were on their 4th pitcher already. It sure didn't hurt either that the bats were there very nicely to back him up, too. 😀 Anyway, it was great fun to watch!!! :bouncybou

One thing I did notice, right off, was the difference of the energy level of the Tigers vs the Yankess. Maybe the Yankees need to be reminded that this is suppose to be fun, still, not just ALL business. Do you think maybe they've gotten too weighted down with "having to win" the big series so that it ends up hindering them from doing so (just pondering)?

I hate to say. Everyone made fun of the Braves with all those division titles, and only the one World Series win. Think of this. Since 2002, the Yankees have only gotten into the World Series once, going down this year, in the first round, for the third time in five years, and then there was the infamous coughing up, of the three games to none lead, in the ALCS against Boston in 2004. Really, since the thrilling World Series they played against the Dbacks in 2001, the Yankees havent done that well in the postseason in the last five years.
All this goes to show that Steinbuyer, as I like to call him, cant guarantee championships with his insane 200 million dollar payroll. I truly wish they would put a salary cap in baseball, 100 million, no more, and have true revenue sharing, giving all teams a chance. It will be interesting to see what old George does after this latest loss. My guess, raise the payroll to $250 mil. Oh, and he might have one more moment to seethe about, although it is a long way off, if the Mets make it, he might well have to witness a Mets championship, because, I think the Yankees had the best chance to beat the Mets. Although, with the postseason being as much of crapshoot as it is, I've learned over the years, that, except for certain years, like 1986 with the Mets and 1998 with the Yankees, where those teams dominated from start to finish. Most times, underdogs come through in the postseason, which is what makes things so interesting.

Game Notes

DETROIT PITCHER JEREMY BONDERMAN HAS A PERFECT GAME THROUGH FIVE INNINGS.

THE SINGLE BY NEW YORK'S ROBINSON CANO IN THE TOP OF THE SIXTH INNING ENDED BONDERMAN'S PERFECT GAME.

Congratulations to the Detroit Tigers. :woot:

DOWN GOES THE EVIL EMPIRE!!!

I unfortunately was out of town this past weekend but was able to watch the game. The celebration afterwards was quite a site to see. I'd like to piggyback a bit on what Sadira said, the Tigers played like they were having fun and that celebration was all about having fun. A scene like that would never happen in Yankee stadium.

Tonight is game 1, GO TIGERS!!

the yankees should spend some of their money on a few players with heart, not just some good sluggers going after the big pay day.
