According to reports I've read, Torre is gone. Also, there are some scathing posts on the Yankees message board on their website, stating who should be traded, or released. The following are the list of heads that should roll, according to the message board fodder.
1. Torre-Obviously, the fans blame him for the Yankees early exit
2. "Pussina" aka Mike Mussina.
3. "A-Fraud" aka A-Rod.
4. "The Useless Unit" aka Randy Johnson.
5. Kyle "Farnsworthless" aka Farnsworth. I havent seen him pitch this year, but I rather agree with Yankees fans on this one. Farnsworth is way overrated. The Braves rented him as a closer last year late in the season, and his meltdown in the deciding Game 4 of the NLDS cost us the playoffs.
The fans also advocate getting rid of Sheffield.
It's difficult to pinpoint exactly what the Yankees need to do. Based on what I know, I think they need a few more starting pitchers, and some better bridge relief to get to Rivera. I thought that their lineup was pretty solid, until this week against the Tigers. Let's not forget that the Tigers have great pitching, and may well have just shut the Yankees down, much like my Braves shut down the scary Cleveland Indians in the 1995 World Series, allowing them only 18 runs in a six game series, an ERA of 3.00, and shutting them down on only one hit in Game Six to clinch. Good pitching can stop good hitting in the postseason, and, although the Yankees gave up quite a few runs in this series, the Tigers also pitched them well. As much as Yankee fans are angry, you have to give the Tigers credit, too.
