The problem seems to be an outdated version of the plugin which one of the previous admins had setup and has the details for. I'm going to give said admin another 48 hours to respond to my requests to contact back. If there is no joy at that point, I will setup a new version of the chat script...

The emails were trickling out smoothly... but then at about 10k in, my place experienced a sudden power cut and my machine was turned off. Since the email members feature runs in the browser... that went off too :( I am going to look into trying to set it running again. I just hope that it can...
