Mostly depends what engine is game made in. Rpg maker XP games are easy for changing codes without breaking the game, but everything else is iffy business. Otherwise you would have to reproduce the code.

To make game over ending, you must check 'continue even if loser' and then after fight start a new event that follows it. It's quite easy once you get a hang of it.
