Rock Legend Jim Steinman Dead At 73

Steinman was a caricature of 70’s baroque rock; head to toe leather, fringed gauntlets, the works. He was also a lyrical genius, with an unparalleled skill for creating evocative, irresistible songs out of cliches.

I love Steinman's stuff with Meat Loaf, with Todd Rundgren producing... the melodramatic, lengthy, wall of sound belters... and also the Celine Dion tracks.

I'd not realised he'd done the Barry Manilow/Air Supply tracks, I'll have to check those out.

I'm consciously trying to pay more attention to lyrics.. I enjoyed the 'Dead Ringer for Love' lyrics. And of course the attention-grabbing "On a hot summer night, would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses?" opening to "You Took the Words Right Out of my Mouth", probably my fave Steinman track to whack up loud.

Billboard Hot 100 singles written/produced by Jim Steinman.
