OMG YES YES YES! THE WAIT IS OVER! THE STORY CONTINUES! I´M SO EXCITED! I KNOW WHAT I WILL DO AT THE WEEKEND!!! :-D

FINISHED IT!!! Tarr my friend... I don´t know how you do it, but the way you always surprise me with this series is insane! I knew this book would be good, but this is another level! The way you turning this story slowly from a innocent elite sorority drama to a spy/crime thriller is just incredible! And beside that, you were able to take Roxi and turn her - from me hating her in the first trilogy, to start to feel for her and understand her in Yearbook #1 - to be one of my favorite characters with this book! I can´t even believe that!

The exciting new charaters like Mr. Andrews and the "White-Suited Man" are a great addition to the already awesome cast and perfectly woven into the story.

The character development is just amazing! You will see sites and emotions from them, you never saw before and for some characters you never would expected. And it will leave you questioning some characters actions and maybe see them in a different light after that! I love them even more now than I already did before. Especially Roxi, Stacie and Megan.

The relationships and connections between the characters are SO GOOD and very importent for the story. I love the beautiful romantic relationship between Diane and Barton. I love the funny relationship between Roxi and Hooper. And I really like the connection between Stacie and Roxi. This was very surprising.

The flashbacks and key points from the other books are perfectly tied to the overall story. It fits so well and makes the story even richer.

And besides all this other amazing things, there is the story itselfe! This story is a rollercoaster ride from start to finish! Everytime you think you know in which direction the plot is going, it will take a complete turn and it will be nothing you expected it to be! There are several moments and twists in this book which are so intense or emotional, its unbelievable! I laughed, I cried, I screamed and at some moments I was just shocked and in disbelive! And when you think you read it all and nothing can surprise you anymore, there comes the ending withe a revelation that is jaw dropping and sets so much up for book #3, it´s just INCREDIBLE!

And holy hell the tickle scenarios! I was speechless! I can´t praise you enough for this!

Yearbook #2 is my favorite Hell Week book so far, surpassing Yearbook #1 easy! Great story, great characters and great emotions! I loved every minute of it! And I´m very glad the book was so big! :-D It was worth it!

I CAN´T WAIT for Yearbook #3. I need it! I crave it! I hunger for it! I could read it just right now because something big will happen in this book and I want to know it! :-D Waiting for this book will be torture for me! :-D

I'm so glad you liked it! It was a tremendous challenge to say the least, trying to fit everything into one book and leave room for all the tickles too. Sometimes the story is like Jenga, where you can't pull out one thing without something else coming out. But we managed to fit in all of the Hooper and Roxi sections and all the Diane and Barton sections!

So, how did you feel about that development? :) I know you like Diane, so I was wonder how it felt to follow her through this and see a far more vulnerable version than normal?

As I said, the character development is amazing! I could follow Diane through the whole book. And it was so beautiful to see her emotions, her thoughts, her feelings and that she opened her heart and showed what´s really inside! When she witnessed the conversation with Barton and Carol, I had tears in my eyes! It was so wonderful! She even admitted her fault with Roxi. I respect her even more now than I already did before!

I'm thrilled to hear you say that! I was afraid showing too much of her humanity in this book would unwittingly diminish her. Kind of the idea of it is that the Trilogy was how our three pledges saw everything, and Yearbook is more of the veneer being pulled away. I also was concerned about conveying how agonizing this choice is (as Megan tells Diane in the next book, "the choice you had to make must have damn near ripped you in half."), that Diane really, to the very center of her being, loves both men. And I felt it was vital to show that the story had to do justice to Todd; romances so often make this easy by giving one of them a flaw to make their rejection feel justified. I wanted the reader to feel, even if they wanted things to turn out as they did, that Todd had done nothing to deserve rejection, no justification to turn away from him, it had to be solely because she simply could not, ever, lose Barton, no matter what it might cost her. Even the perfect man.

BTW, I did put together some fun things to check out from the other book, now that you've read this one. Among other things, if you paid attention, you might have figured out what was going to happen:
-Hell Week 3, pg 98, 5th paragraph from the bottom, compared to HWYB 2, pg 45, 5th paragraph from the bottom
-HWYB 1, page 36, last sentence before the gap
-HWYB 1, pg 137, Barton tells Diane about the guy who bought Star

Yes, the hints and points you left in the other books are beautiful executed in this book. Even if I could not remember everything, I was like "Wait there was something in the other book". :-D

For me personally, showing humanity never diminish the character. It makes the character more interesting and real. And it was really important that Diane made the choice because it was her right to choose, even if it was painful for her. The whole romance with Diane and Barton is so well done! And I loved that Diane called "The Cameleon" for advice and switched to "Roxanne" but already knew Dianes choice and told her everything taste like ash when there is no joy. This was so good!

That's really great to hear, I know how much Diane means to you as a character, I'm so happy the story did her justice. :) The next question is: did I unwittingly oversell the final Diane tickle scene? You sounded so excited about it, I was afraid it might not measure up!

To be really honest, yes you did. Because you said this will be one to remember, but for me it didn´t felt that way. :-D Even though I really liked Dianes final tickle scene because it was very sexy and romantic and just fit the romance between Diane and Barton, I had completely different expectations for her final tickle scene.^^

Yeah, I was afraid of that. Oh well. :)

So now that we're this far in I can spill some of the background stuff, I've been keeping to myself. So, you can infer from the first tickling scene between Todd and Diane that the two of them were getting answers out of Logan (aka Wolverine) about Roxi's involvement, with Barton's help. We'll see that in the next book, but it proved to be a critical moment. When Diane goes to get answers, I originally (we're talking the original drafts) thought she wouldn't bring Todd or any of the other boyfriends because they might allow their emotions to get the better of them, she needed some guys to help her that would always trust her judgment. That's when I remembered that Barton and Donnie were good friends to the Sigmas, and thought they'd be perfect for Diane to call on to help her out. There's intimidating him into giving up Roxi, and then there's the "stairwell scene" as I call it, where afterwards, they discuss what Logan told them and why Roxi did what she did.

It was from this that I then decided that Barton and Donnie would run the auction's IT, that gives an even stronger reason for them to be there. But the problem was, it was taking way to long to build up to when the tickling at the auction actually starts. So, to add a little something spicy to it, I wrote the scene where Diane has Megan, Margot, and Stacie tickle her feet for Barton as a way of bringing him in as a friend of the Sigmas, basically everything that wound up as Interlude 1 of the first book. It was a nice little break, but the only reason that the scene was about Barton was because he happened to be the character that I had running the auction at that time. However, I didn't just write the scene, I added a little conclusion that they dated for a little while afterwards, that Diane took his virginity in fact, but that in the end they decided to remain friends because she was too ticklish for a guy who loved to tickle so much.

But then a strange thing happened as a result. See, the characters don't do what I tell them to do, the characters tell me what they're doing. If they're not doing what I want, I need to alter the situation, otherwise they don't feel real any more. So this is when Barton and Diane started to have separate ideas for the story than I did. When I revised the stairwell scene, Barton sends Donnie on ahead, then hugs Diane and says, "I let you down, chief." (This moment originated his nickname for her) Diane makes a few jokes about his many conquests, but he says, "Truth is, every woman I've ever been with has lived in your shadow."

Then, the scene where the Chameleon is tickling Diane in her office was under different circumstances - it was about the revenge plot, not about the hack, it actually occurred after. Barton arrives when Diane is done to talk with her, which is essentially the orchard scene except it was just on campus and the pair sitting on a bench behind the Sigma house. Diane finishes it up with the same line as in the final version, "I'm shutting this down. You've been overindulged and are going to be insufferable for the next few days." There was a sense in her line that this was a relationship so familiar she wore it like an old coat. I realized these two were much more than friends, and with every revision, Diane and Barton's scenes became more emotionally intimate. Finally a scene came (I can tell you this because the plotline has changed, so it's not a spoiler) that Barton called up Diane, thinking something he heard couldn't be true. When she instead tries to justify it, he tries to get her to see reason, but she feels betrayed, and Barton says that he always feared the day would come when he'd have to choose between how he felt about her, and being her friend, and that doing the latter meant calling her on her bullshit. Diane is outraged that he would ever side against her, but later on she realizes he was right, leading to a scene similar to the one they had over the phone, after he sang his apology song, where she promises that Sigmas make the rules and she will never let anything come between what they have.

But, even that wasn't enough. Diane and Barton with every revision told me they weren't happy with where their storyline ended. Every time, they would force themselves closer and closer, despite my best efforts, despite the fact that this iteration of the story was about 90% done for the WHOLE THING. They finally convinced me to just give it a try, and let them be together. And that convinced me. I had to essentially rebuild the entire story as a result, but they had shown me the story was that much better for them being on a journey that finished what they had started freshman year and winding up in each other's arms. Tens of thousands of words were thrown out to accommodate the change, but Diane and Barton wanted this so badly I couldn't deny them.

So that's the background of how Diane's storyline became what it did. :)

So that's the background of how Diane's storyline became what it did. :)

I had a feeling something like this would eventually happen. Because a lot of the stuff you mentioned earlier was not even in the book. :-D Like the whole part with Aiko dealing with the situation with Roxi or the Shadow Lance stuff.^^ But I understand it. It would have undermined the beautiful story with Diane and Barton and that would have been very sad because it was so well done! :-D

Oh, let me clarify: I'm talking stuff from before Yearbook 1 came out. Originally, this was a trilogy and I had written 90% of the entire trilogy. Once the Diane and Barton stuff happened, the trilogy flew out the window and I had to rebuild the story from the ground up. :D

The reason that Aiko and the Shadow Lance are reduced was just to make room, but their material is just pushed back (currently it's in the next book), not canceled. Almost everything that wasn't directly tied to either Roxi and Hooper or Diane and Barton had to be pushed to make room. MTJ was very indulgent to allow it to be this big, I had to push back wherever I could to make it reasonable. :) I even had to push back the stuff with Hooper and Candace; I'd wanted to give her much more than what she got, but it took too much build up to get to that point. There's a line in the final version where Hooper tells Roxi something like "You'd have to be pretty awful if even I couldn't stand you;" this shows just how unreasonable Candace is that even the eternally patient Hooper finally loses his cool with her. But it's just a delay, she will get hers! XD

I was just talking to MTJ about this issue in fact with book 3, that I have to excise or cut down some things to get to the essentials of what this particular story is. And I think it'll work because for Diane, the two issues have just collided: she's found a new love, and she has unleashed a revenge that wasn't quite was she was expecting. This will allow the first quarter of the next book to fill in the gaps, like the stairwell scene, Aiko discussing with Diane, Eva's plotting, all leading to that night where Eva's revenge is complete, and Diane has to deal with the fallout of both disasters. Because having traveled with Diane in this book, we understand why in the end she had to choose what she did. But as she acknowledged, there will be consequences. But she won't allow the consequences to deter her from this course, in fact it's a vital part of the story. Diane had to learn the hard way what she really feels, and acted quickly to make sure she couldn't lose it again, but secretly aching for someone you thought you couldn't have, and then having the chance... well, that's going to profoundly shape her thinking now.

But I shouldn't talk too much about what's to come, the last book has barely hit the presses! XD

Yes the room for Roxi and Hopper and Diane and Barton was very important! I understand that 100%. But damn I swear you got me really good with the Ending! I was speechless and screaming inside as it hit! I was like "NO... WHAT... HOW... WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON??? YOU CAN´T TO THIS TO ME!!!" :-D I never saw that coming you evil genius.^^

LOL I was hoping that might surprise! Diane underestimated the effect she's had on Eva, as Eva reflected on page 60, how even Diane's touch was enough to nearly make her weep with happiness. The same exact touch that makes Roxi so jealous, as she confessed to Kat; Diane doesn't realize what she represents to girls like Eva and Roxi, who have been missing something their whole lives. How could Roxi not hate her for her rejection, or be jealous of Eva for being embraced? And how could Eva not love her for her unconditional love, or unleash her harshest vengeance upon Diane's enemy? It had never occurred to Diane what a dangerous thing it was to not only allow Eva off the leash, but to encourage her.

And that's exactly why it hit me like a bomb! The whole time you had the feeling that Roxi is kind of the "villain" of the story and all of the sudden you find out that Eva is the dangerous one and kind of the real "villain" because she is obsessed with Diane. Diane misjudged her completely and now everybody is doomed and have to deal with the consequences! It´s the 2nd time Eva did something that she should never have done. 1st with Star´s mom and now this! And Diane promised Donnie that Eva would not do something like that again! And if "The Cameleon" finds out and she will find out because she knows everything, then they will suffer the worst tickle torture ever! :-D And "The Cameleon" was right in Hell Week #3. Diane made a poor choice and she should have thrown her out.

Was that the poor choice, though? Or was it Diane letting Eva off the leash? The story of the Blue Carbuncle, which reminds Diane of Eva, is that showing mercy on someone otherwise without a criminal bent saves them, because if they're put in prison with criminals, they will develop the habits and mindset of a criminal. By rescuing Eva from her past ways, only to then encourage her to return to them, Diane has undermined her entire mission with Eva. And after Barton had warned her that this could happen.

Remember what she confessed to Stacie: if she wouldn't have felt the need to punish Roxi for what happened during her interview, what happened with Eva Friday night might never have happened. And yet, when Roxi is going to get away with what she did on Halloween, Diane forgets everything she'd learned and wants to punish Roxi again, and it again leads to problems with Eva.

What's horrifying for Diane is that she wanted the Sigmas to save Eva, and in her need for revenge she might just have condemned her.

This is how these two books parallel each other: Roxi Deserves To Win ends with her victory, but closes with the seeds planted for her downfall. Diane Deserves To Win ends with her victory, but closes with the realization something bad has happened. That's why in the next story, Roxi and Diane's stories will finally collide - they haven't directly interacted with each other since Roxi left the Sigma house the Saturday of Hell Week... although that was down to both of them. If Diane hadn't been so angry over Corey and Roxi hadn't seized a chance to taunt Diane, maybe all their problems could have been avoided. They both carry a share of blame for their own problems.

And this is unfortunately the worst part about it. Diane wanted to solve the Problem with Roxy after a 2nd thought. She even told Barton that maybe she should just let it go because she is the older one. But she never told Eva and she thought that Eva at worst would only conduct a tickle scenario for Roxi. She didn´t expect Eva to do something insane. So I think it´s a mix of both, poor choice and letting Eva off the leash without a 2nd thought. But that´s what´s so interesting about this. Diane did it not because she is a bad person, she did it because she is human and has a big heart and want´s to save everybody and humans make mistakes. That´s why I love this whole story so much. And of course carry Diane and Roxi a share of blame for their own problems and actions. They just should have talked to each other. And I can´t believe this leads to the title of the 3rd book. Remember when I said as a joke they just should tickle fight it out? And even Barton mentioned it in the book and said he want´s to have a good place for the tickle fight. LOL. And now you doing this! When I read this I was like "NO WAY THIS IS REAL??? YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING ME!!! :-D

LOL I thought you might enjoy that revelation! :D Now don't allow yourself to build that up too much, we don't want a repeat of what happened with THIS BOOK! XD

You're absolutely right about Diane, and in the next book, as she uncovers that it was Roxi behind Halloween, you'll see exactly how her big heart is what gets her into trouble. It makes her more inclined to react rather than think.

And I can't tell you how happy I am that Roxi has changed for you for the better! I knew it was an uphill climb for her, so I'm glad it's paid off and people can get behind her in spite of what she's done. :)

Don't worry I keep my hype in check this time. :-D It was just funny that you did this.^^ But they really should have a tickle fight. If I was Diane I would say "Do you know what Roxi? Let´s tickle the shit out of each other and we are fine". LOL. I´m so happy that Roxi turned out the way she is now. Finally she will have a good mentor with Kat. But I also love what you did with Stacie and Megan. The way they call out Diane on her BS and at the same time are true friends and listen do her if she needs it is SO GOOD! I LOVE THEM! I also love that Roxi didn´t had bad feelings for Stacie because she knew she was the only one who stood up for her and didn´t wanted to be unfair to her. I was so happy for Stacie as Roxi reset everything to normal and then you bad man twisted the knife and I was like "NO!!! WHO DID THIS TO HER??? NOT FAIR!!! BURN THIS PERSON!!!" :-D

LMAO If you pay attention, you'll notice that the person who did it... didn't limit their involvement to Halloween! :D

But oh yes, Megan, Stacie, and Margot are all ready to call Diane, or each other, on their BS. Sometimes when you look out for someone, it has to be protecting them from themselves. Of course, in Margot's case, sometimes that's joining in when you're being tickled to death by your fiance! XD

Which reminds me, while I've heard your thoughts on Diane, I forgot to ask about the other half of the equation. YB2 is when we first really crawl into Barton's head, was it what you expected, given his reputation before this? Did you like what it revealed about him?

Yes I notice that the person was acting beyond Halloween. BURN!!! LOL
I loved it when Margot joined Tood in tickling Diane. So mean!^^ But I also loved Margots tickle torture with the flashy four! The floss between her toes and the teasing was DELICIOUS! :-D
Yes I really loved Bartons thoughts. He is a great character. I had a feeling that Barton would turn out as he did in YB2. :-D

Margot made a mistake taking on Tricia. Now that the little spitfire has shown Margot is vulnerable, all her past victims are looking for a chance at revenge! And you can be sure it's not ending here! :D

Were you surprised by any of the developments with him? Or did you figure that you knew both him and Diane after the first book to be able to read them and know what they'd be up to? And I have to ask if you were surprised by Diane's final choice (my editor shook their fist at me for making them think Diane had chosen against him). XD

I was surprised that Barton wanted to change for Diane and took therapy sessions. I knew that he was in love with her but not that deep! And I was surprised that Diane did choose Barton over Tood. Because Tood was the perfect man for her. But hey, that is love. There are no rules. :-D But I feel very sorry for Tood. He did nothing wrong and lost his future wife. That is really sad.

This was exactly the reason Diane had to call her mentor: she had already chosen Barton with her heart, but she knew that Todd was the right choice. And the Chameleon got that, and essentially gave Diane permission to not have to do the right thing today. Remember her angry rant to Corey? "You forced me to choose between my duty to the Sigmas, and him." She was torn up over having to do it once already, here we are back again. That's why she had to self-sabotage, to try not to give herself a way back from what she wanted.

None of this is to say that Diane didn't love Todd to the core of her being. Even knowing she will one day be president and have to lead the Sigmas forward, no decision she will ever have to make will be as hard as what she made that night.

And it is definitely sad for Todd. Like I said previously, I didn't want to cheat him by making it easy to say that she should go with Barton, and Diane's comment "this won't be easy for us" is an accurate prediction of what's coming in book 3! There will be consequences for her actions. Diane thinks she's ready to handle them, but she'll be put to the test when she sees what they are. And that's not even counting dealing with the fallout from what Eva did! While the first book covered two months and the second covered three weeks, this one will cover less than a week! Diane's got a lot of problems of her own making, and somehow gets into a tickle-fight with Roxi along the way! XD I wish it was finished so I could send it in already!

Oh yes, there are a lot of problems to handle for Diane for sure. It will be very interesting to see how she will deal with all this and the tickling. And I´m all in for the tickle fight of course.^^ But man can we talk about the white-suited man? What a great character. I had a prediction half way through Stars Halloween scene that it was him because the way he spoke to her. His skills are very amazing and he was a real gentlemen. I didn´t expected this because I thought he was this evil person. But the way he was moved by Stars speech and wants that she achieve her goals... that whole scene was AMAZING!
