Over 60 brands of Omega-3 pet supplements sold on Amazon, Chewy recalled after dog gets sick

The maker of cat and dog Omega-3 supplements sold under several brands is recalling certain products over concerns they may have dangerously elevated levels of vitamin A, according to a company recall posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Florida-based Stratford Care Inc. said the voluntary recall came as a response to a single report of a dog experiencing symptoms of vitamin A toxicity.
“Ingestion of elevated levels can lead to health issues depending on the level of vitamin A and the length of exposure,” the company said in its recall. “Vitamin A toxicity may include general malaise, anorexia, nausea, peeling skin, weakness, tremors, convulsions, paralysis, and death.”
Stratford Care said only one adverse reaction had been reported, and that no other products were affected. It asked customers, retailers and clinics to discard the supplements.
Vitamin A is an essential pet vitamin, but poisoning can occur when a pet consumes too large of a dose. For most species, toxicity occurs after consuming 10-1,000 times the dietary requirement of vitamin A, according to the Merck Veterinary Manual.

More than 60 brands recalled
The supplements were sold in white bottles of 60 capsules under 62 different brand names at clinics, retailers, and online retailers such as Amazon and Chewy, according to the recall. The containers are labeled “lot 31133 EXP 04/13/23” and “lot 30837 EXP 10/26/22."
