HOLY COW!

My daughter was just going outside about 20 minutes ago to talk to my mother who was in the driveway in her car, and she spotted this beauty sitting on the ledge of my van window, peacefully dozing! She ran in and got me and I grabbed the camera to snag a few shots of it.

This thing had a wingspan of 7-8 inches, and looked like something prehistoric the way it was all fat and furry....even had something I've never seen before....two either legs or antennae right alongside of it's face (one on either side) that was covered from top to bottom in thousands of long lashes. Almost looked like millipede legs! It honestly matched the description of one of the creatures Stephen King describes in his story "The Mist", for anyone who's read it...lol

Anyway, I just had to share this since I've never seen a moth (I assume it's a moth) THIS FRIGGIN BIG up close and personal before! It was awesome!

Mimi 😀

I had one of those in my trailer a couple years ago. Heard a sound beside me... thought it was a mouse... turns out it was a critter like this fluttering around. Damn thing scared the shit out of me at first. It was HUGE!

It looks like what my mom calls an egyptain moth. I've seen them fly and feed just like a hummingbird does.

Bless you Mimi, for grabbing a camera instead of a shoe. You're my kind of people 😀

Most likely a top-secret experimental robotic aircraft that got loose from the DOD. 😀 Beautiful pics Mimi.

OK dammit, I can't figure out how to post pictures like that on this here website !!! I can make them web-ready, then I get lost.

Can anyone point me to an instructional web page ?

You're kidding, right? Mimi (alias "the whapper") whacked that puppy with a flip flop right after she took the pictures!

I think the Men In Black just announced we have one Tyrillian Week to make our peace with God before they blast Earth into smithereens... :shake:

I DID NOT!! I would NEVER hurt or kill ANY animal, nor would I do so to most insects! I love butterflies and moths and spiders among others! I ALWAYS try to catch an insect alive first and get it outside if it's in the house. The only insect I will kill usually is a wasp or hornet, and only then if it's in the house or it's chasing me when I try to run away from it....lol

*whaps sole for spreading vicious rumors* Hmph!

LMAO @ Everyones replies!

Yep, it's a moth. Those things on its head are indeed antennae.

that kind of moth is a polyphemus moth Mimi, I'm pretty sure. They are really neat! I'm not bothered by bugs but I also hate wasps/hornets, they scare the daylights outta me.

Moths are the only ones that have the feathered antennae like you described, that's one easy way to tell if it's a moth or butterfly.

hehe, your story reminds me of this time a few months ago when I was driving to work...I had left my windows rolled down the night before, and I had this huge bug sitting on the inside of my car door while I was driving...I didn't even notice it there until I was halfway to work, but once I saw it, I was quite nervous with it sitting inches from my leg 😉 I did a search on the internet to figure out what it was, until I found a picture of a bug that looked exactly like it...

It was a wheel bug, and you can see why I was nervous! 😉 But once I got to work, I just opened the door and brushed it off onto the ground with a piece of paper and let it run away.
